Brian's Brain Tumor Journey

My son, Brian, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008 when he was a student at UW-Milwaukee. He was only 22 years old at the time, and his diagnosis changed my life forever. I feel truly blessed for Brian to be doing so well, and I remain devoted to doing whatever I can to help raise money for brain tumor research, in the hopes that one day there will be a cure for him. We also have friends of the family who have a daughter, Brenna that was diagnosed with a brain tumor as well.  It is heartbreaking to personally know of another family that has been challenged with this devastating disease. Therefore, I am once again participating in the annual Strain for the Brain fundraising event, to show my unending love and support for both Brian and Brenna!
Brian's journey began in February of 2008, when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in his brain stem. He was immediately hospitalized and scheduled for a craniotomy two days later to remove as much of the brain tumor as possible, followed by radiation and chemotherapy treatments. After enduring all of these treatments, Brian struggled with many neurological issues, some of which seemed to be worsening. This was very disheartening to me as a mom, so I searched day and night looking for a doctor who could possibly provide further help to Brian. After much research, we flew Brian to California for a second craniotomy in November of 2008, which was performed at UCSF Medical Center. During this surgery Dr. Berger removed much more tumor mass, about 85%, which dramatically improved Brian's health issues. We are extremely grateful for the gifted surgeons that we were connected with at UCSF Medical Center, and truly believe it was because of their efforts that Brian's life was saved!
After enduring two surgeries, radiation & chemo treatments and extensive physical therapy, it was with much determination that Brian was able to return to college, earning his engineering degree in 2010. Today he is employed as a Mechanical Engineer at Gulfstream Aerospace, and I couldn't be prouder! Brian has been through so much, and yet has come so far. It is a true testament of his strength and determination, and he is an inspiration to my eyes, he is my hero, and I love him with all my heart!
I am committed to helping raise money for brain tumor research, in the hope that one day there will finally be a cure for Brian, and all those afflicted with this devastating disease. Your support, which allows me to help my son, is appreciated more than you could ever imagine!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Or, if you prefer to write a check, it can be made out to "Strain for the Brain" and given/mailed to me.....I will forward your donation onto the organization.
Many thanks for your support!
