THE MISSION
The Community Diaper Pantry has provided 170,000 Diapers to 435 unduplicated families since July 2021.
In 2022 alone, 82,000 diapers were provided. The goal for 2023 is 160,000!
Did you know that 1 in 3 families struggle to provide enough diapers to keep their children clean, dry, and healthy? Diapers are not covered by public assistance such as WIC and Medicaid and cause financial strain on a family. Children who are unable to have clean and dry diapers may experience health concerns such as diarrhea, urinary tract infections, or diaper rash. Most child care centers require families to provide an adequate amount of diapers for their child to attend, and without diapers those children are missing out on early education and socialization which is fundamental to their development. We believe every Alaskan baby deserves to have a clean diaper and we are here to help!
Alaska Adoption Services received grants from the Rasmuson Foundation, Alaska Children’s Trust, and the Mayor’s Community Grant to help purchase a cargo van to mobilize the diaper pantry. The Community Diaper Pantry is open every Thursday at various locations around the Anchorage Municipality. Families may pre-register for the diapers they need on the Alaska Adoption Services website to guarantee the pantry will have the diapers they need at pick up. The pantry provides 50 diapers per child and one package of wipes per family per month.
