The Wishbone Dash - Free Kids' Dash (8 & under)
Event Description
Thanksgiving morning in Foley, Alabama. A chip-timed 5K on the cross-country trail at Graham Creek Nature Preserve, a one-mile fun run (The Little Gobble), and a free kids' dash (The Wishbone Dash) - and done by ten. You'll be home before the turkey goes in. Walkers welcome. No time limit, a Tail Walker at the back, always. Proceeds benefit Gulf Coast nonprofits that support women, children and adoption.
The Shoe Drive
Run in your new ones. Bring your old ones.
Running shoes, every size – men's, women's, kids'. Every runner has a pair of retired trainers sitting in a closet. Bring them Thanksgiving morning and they go back to work.
- New running shoes go straight to a Baldwin County shelter serving women and children – the same people this race exists for.
- Gently used running shoes go to a reuse partner that sorts, cleans and redistributes, so they end up on feet instead of in a landfill.
- Kids' sizes are the ones that run out first, every single time.
- Running shoes only, please. No dress shoes, boots, sandals, heels or cleats, and nothing worn through.
Where: bins at packet pickup Wednesday and at the finish line Thursday morning. Tie the laces together so they stay a pair.
Bring a pair and your name goes in the drawing we pull at awards. One entry per pair, up to three.
You do not have to bring shoes to run this race. Nobody checks, nobody is made to feel bad, and the drawing is a thank-you, not a toll.
Shelter and reuse partners named the day each agreement is signed.
