Description

On August 10th, join the 2nd oldest half marathon in Arizona sponsored by Kinney Construction Services! This year we are planning to hosting our 47th annual race. All Half Marathon participants will get a commemorative finisher's medal similar to last year's popular design.  Both 5k or half will receive a $34 Sweatvac Hi-Tech colorful long-sleeved shirt. Kid's Dash participants will get a medal. See photos and the last year's race!

This year we are thrilled to have Flagstaff-based write Author Erin Strout serve as our honorary starter, celebrating her just released book, "The Price She Pays, Confronting the Hidden Mental Health Crisis in Women's Sports -- From the Schoolyard to the Stadium."  You will have two opportunities to meet Erin, first at the packet pick-up on Friday August 9th night at Grand Canyon Adventures (400 South Malpais Lane - just south of Natural Grocers) and again on race day.  To learn more about her book, read Julie Hammonds' latest High Country Running column!  Then on August 12th, you can attend the official book launch at Bright Side Bookshop where Erin and her co-authors will host a panel to discuss the book, and then sell and sign "The Price She Pays," hot off the press!  Just be sure to hold your spot by RSVPing at https://www.facebook.com/events/389965844055079

New Big FUNdraiser - GET YOUR ENTRY FEE REFUNDED by creating a donations page. When you go through the registration process and reach the donation page, choose the "Become a BIG Fundraiser" button.  If half marathon runners create a fundraising page and raise $250 or more, you will get your entry fee refunded!  If 5K runners raise over $200, their entry fee will be refunded.  Help Big Brothers BIg Sisters of Flagstaff make this year's race our most successful fundraiser ever!  See below for more info!

11 AM finishing time cut-off!  This gives competitive runners 3 hours and 30 minutes to finish the race.  If you need extra time, we offer a 6 AM early start. For early starters, finisher medals are awarded, but you will not be eligible for age division awards.

You can register in person at the Run Flagstaff packet pickup on Thursday August 8th, 2:30 to 5:30 PM 204 East Route 66, or the night before the race at Grand Canyon Adventures 5:30 to 7:30 PM (400 South Malapais Lane).  THERE WILL BE VERY LIMITED RACE-DAY REGISTRATION, AND YOU MUST ARRIVE BETWEEN 6 AND 6:45 AM; WE WILL SHUT REGISTRATION DOWN AT 7 AM.  RACE DAY REGISTRANTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED A SHIRT!!!!

Our beautiful course starts at Thorpe Park (do note no longer Wheeler Park!) and climbs the steep urban trail onto Observatory Mesa (where astronomers discovered Pluto) and follows dirt roads on with spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks. Elevations range between 6957 ft at the start, to 7731 ft near the 7.5 mile mark! Most of the climbing is done over the first 1.25 miles, so pace yourself. If you are from lower elevations, heed the race director's advice and power walk!!!! You will easily make up the time over the rest of the course!  The 5K is also on Observatory Mesa. ALL proceeds benefit BBBSF Mentoring Programs that create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

AID STATIONS: Mile 1 (before 5K/Half Marathon split: Water), Mile 2 (gate at top of urban trail: water and gatorade), Mile 4.5 (Junction of Pipeline and Forest Road: Water and Gatorade), Mile 6 (used to be halfway: Water, Gatorade, M and Ms), Mile 8 (Haag's Hideway: Water), Mile 10.1 (Same as 4.5 on return: Water, Gatorade and M and Ms), Mile 11 (same as Mile 2 on return: Water and Gatorade), Mile 12 (Same as mile 1 on return: Water).  If you are running the early start, many of our aid station volunteers don't arrive until 7 AM. The supplies will be at the stations so you can help yourself.  If you have favorite gels/chews/fuel, you will need to carry those with you.

August 8th: Early Packet Pick up at Run Flagstaff, 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, 204 West Historic Route 66, Flagstaff

August 9th FRATELLI'S PIZZA PARTY PACKET PICK UP: All registered runners get a free pizza party from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Grand Canyon Adventures where you can pick up your Bib and shirt. Race Maps

Please note, while the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff half marathon and 5K course have not been certified by a Jones Wheel, our course crew used odometers on two different quads to come up with 13.1 miles and 5K on the nose. Because our challenging course has narrow canyons and thick tree canopy, GPS units all come up with different results. For a detailed explanation visit our discussion on our NATRA page on Facebook!
