Description
On August 9th, join the 2nd oldest half marathon in Arizona sponsored by Kinney Construction Services! This year we are hosting our 48th annual race on our challenging and breathtakingly beautiful course. All Half Marathon participants will get a commemorative finisher's medal similar to last year's popular design. Both 5k or half will receive a $34 Sweatvac Hi-Tech colorful long-sleeved shirt, admission to the FREE August 8th Fratelli's pre-race pizza party at Grand Canyon Adventures, and of course FREE digital photos! Kid's Dash participants will get a medal. See photos and the last year's race!
The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff Half Marathon and 5K are walker-friendly events! Those who would like to take their time on our beautiful but challenging half-marathon course, there is a 6 AM start. While you will receive a chip time and finisher's medal, you will not be eligible for age division awards.
Our beautiful course starts at Thorpe Park and climbs the steep urban trail onto Observatory Mesa (where astronomers discovered Pluto) and follows dirt roads on with spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks. Elevations range between 6957 ft at the start, to 7731 ft near the 7.5 mile mark! Most of the climbing is done over the first 1.25 miles, so pace yourself. If you are from lower elevations, heed the race director's advice and power walk!!!! You will easily make up the time over the rest of the course! The 5K is also on Observatory Mesa. ALL proceeds benefit BBBSF Mentoring Programs that create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.
The race is also part of the 21st annual Flagstaff Running Series value package of five of Flagstaff's most iconic foot races. You can save big on the Series package of races by registering for one-stop shopping at https://runsignup.com/Race/AZ/Flagstaff/FlagstaffRunSeries
5K and Half Marathon Long-Sleeved Sweatvac Shirts and Half Marathon Medals
All Half Marathon finishers will receive a beautifully handcrafted wood carved medallion made by local runner Rod Horn and all Half Marathon and 5K runners get a beautiful hi-tech $34 value long-sleeve dye-sublimated Sweatvac racing shirt!
BECOME A BIG FUNDRAISER AND HAVE YOUR ENTRY FEE REFUNDED or DONATE DIRECTLY!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff greatly relies on the generosity of individuals to support the organization’s annual operating budget. Gifts from caring people like you make it possible for our staff to recruit volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters and provide them with one-to-one expert advice and support. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff also offers a wide variety of activities—social, educational, entertainment, vocational and more—for our “Bigs” and “Littles.” It costs our agency $1,800 to make and support a match for one year.
DONATIONS can be made with or without a race entry - click on the blue "DONATE" button in page header! This year, if half marathon runners raise $250 or more, their entry fee will be refunded, and if 5K runners raise $200 or more, their entry fee will be refunded as well! To do so go through the registration process and when you reach the donations page, click on the Become a BIG fundraiser button! Reach your goals and your entry fee will be refunded!

Race Maps
Please note, while the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff half marathon and 5K course have not been certified by a Jones Wheel, our course crew used odometers on two different quads to come up with 13.1 miles and 5K on the nose. Because our challenging course has narrow canyons and thick tree canopy, GPS units all come up with different results. For a detailed explanation visit our discussion on our NATRA page on Facebook!
