FAQ

Who’s learning?

Parents, Autistic adults, caregivers, and advocates will learn about new legislation, important Autism and disability issues, how the legislative process works, and how to effectively share your story with lawmakers.

No advocacy experience is needed! Whether this is your first time at the Capitol or you’re an experienced advocate, we’ll help you feel prepared to make your voice heard.

Legislators and their staff will also be learning! Help us educate policymakers about Autism and disability, and the needs of Autistic children, adults, and their loved ones across the lifespan.

What will we do?:

Morning - Education & Training. We’ll discuss new legislation and ongoing issues affecting the Autism community and provide tips for meeting with legislative offices. You’ll also have the option to learn how to turn your personal experience into a short, impactful advocacy story.

Break - Lunch is not provided during this event so the break allows time for people to go get lunch at the Capitol Grille or one of the restaurants off site near the Capitol. You can also bring your lunch and eat it on the Capitol grounds (no food or drinks in the auditorium).

Afternoon - Capitol Office Visits - Optional, but We Need You! Help educate legislators and staff about Autism, key legislation, and the real-life needs of Autistic Texans and families. Your voice can make a difference for Texans across the state!

What should I wear?:

Wear a past Advocacy Day tee or other Autism Society of Texas Tee if you have one! Comfortable shoes are highly recommended - we’ll be doing lots of walking!

Where should I park?:

Parking: Capitol Visitors Parking Garage, 1201 San Jacinto Blvd. First 2 hours free; $2/hour after that.

What if I can't pay the registration fee?:

The $5 registration fee helps offset event costs. However, cost should never be a barrier! Please email info@texasautismsociety.org for a free registration code.

What's next?:

Save the Date! Texas Autism Advocacy Day is March 23, 2027! Please join us again when the session is in full swing and bills are moving!
