Meet the Bike-A-Thon Staff Team!

Meet Darwisa!
Q: How many years have you been at ACS? --- 6 years!
Q: What is your WHY for working at the American Cancer Society? --- My "why" is honoring my mom, who I lost to cancer when I was 17. I do this work so no one else has to have their world torn apart by cancer and to create a future where everyone can live free from this disease.
Q: Favorite thing about working on Bike-A-Thon? --- I love seeing how this event helps riders, volunteers, and donors heal through purpose, connection, and hope, whether they ride in honor, memory, celebration, or for change. It reminds me I'm not alone in my loss and that together we're turning pain into purpose and loss into strength so that we can help save lives.
Q: A fun fact about yourself! --- I'm also a professional photographer whose work has been exhibited in NYC, the United Nations, and Italy.

Meet Shelbey!
Q: How many years have you been at ACS? --- 4 years this March, 3 with our DetermiNation team! I originally started at ACS as a Development Coordinator for our Distinguised Events team.
Q: What is your WHY for working at the American Cancer Society? --- so that in the future, eventually no one will have to hear the words you have cancer. I lost my nana when I was three to lung cancer, and now being 27 the impact of her loss is still felt greatly. It's empowering to know we're all working together so that hopefully in the future no parent, child, friend, or anyone has to worry about losing someone they love to cancer.
Q: Favorite thing about working on Bike-A-Thon? --- I love being at the bridge the morning of ride day! There is nothing like watching our survivors kick us off at sunrise and the feeling of the energy, joy, and hope that comes with the day! I also love meeting our riders at the start, end, and even at our packet pick-ups prior to the ride to thank them and to hear their stories.
Q: A fun fact about yourself! --- I love astrology and I have a tattoo of my zodiac sign!

Meet Sam!
Q: How many years have you been at ACS? --- 2 years this November!
Q: What is your WHY for working at the American Cancer Society? --- I believe in a world without cancer. What keeps me going are the memories of the family I've lost and the strength of those who have survived
Q: Favorite thing about working on Bike-A-Thon? --- Being able to meet all the riders on the day of the ride and hearing their stories. It drives home the fact that EVERYONE is impacted by cancer.
Q: A fun fact about yourself! --- I was on the Price is Right!
