Honoring the American Story
The Mt. Soledad Hill Climb proudly benefits the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, a sacred space dedicated to honoring the individual legacies of American veterans and preserving their stories as a beacon of freedom.
High above the Pacific, the memorial stands as one of the nation’s most powerful tributes. With thousands of engraved plaques, it reflects the faces, sacrifices, and stories of those who have served, creating a lasting connection between generations and the true character of service.
As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, the memorial continues its mission to protect the American story, connecting the ideals of 1776 to the men and women whose courage is etched into its walls today. From early patriots to modern service members, nearly 250 years of sacrifice are honored here as part of an unbroken legacy of service.
The memorial also honors individuals like Cpl. Patrick “Bob” Gallagher, whose extraordinary courage during the Vietnam War represents the enduring spirit of service and sacrifice that defines this nation.
100% of all additional donations go directly to the memorial, supporting its preservation, expansion, and ongoing mission to ensure these stories are never forgotten.
By participating or donating, you are helping protect these legacies and carry forward the American story.
Event Description
A physical challenge that represents the weight carried by those who served — and those we’ve lost.
The Mt. Soledad Hill Climb presented by Kaiser Permanente is a Memorial Day weekend experience rooted in honor, effort, and remembrance. This 1.8 mile ascent, held on Saturday, May 23rd, invites participants to climb Mt. Soledad—home to the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial—in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Participants can choose to walk, hike, or take on the added challenge of a ruck by carrying a weighted backpack, symbolizing the physical and emotional weight carried by service members.
For those participating in the Ruck Challenge, participants are encouraged to bring their own rucksack or backpack. Weight will be provided on-site, along with scales to ensure proper load. A limited number of extra rucksacks will be available—please email us in advance if you require one.
Whether pushing your limits or simply showing up in support, this is an opportunity to be part of something meaningful.
