What is the Mt. Soledad Hill Climb?
The Mt. Soledad Hill Climb is a 1.75 km Memorial Day weekend experience combining fitness, community, and purpose. Participants will ascend Mt. Soledad to the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, honoring those who have served and sacrificed.
All additional donations directly support the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, helping preserve and share the stories of our nation’s veterans.
When is the event?
Saturday, May 23
How do start times work?
Participants are assigned a start time in 20-minute waves beginning at 7:30 AM.
Can I choose my start time?
You can select a preference at registration, but it is not guaranteed.
When will I get my start time?
Start times will be emailed during race week.
Where do I park?
All participants park at the top near the memorial (finish area).
How do I get to the start?
Shuttles will take you down to the start line before your wave.
What time should I arrive?
Arrive 30–45 minutes before your start time.
How long does it take?
Most participants finish in 40 minutes to 1 hour.
Is it difficult?
It’s a steady uphill climb, but all paces are welcome.
Is there a time limit?
No, there is not a time limit.
What’s the difference?
Ruck Challenge
- Complete the climb carrying weighted backpack- The standards will be 40lbs for Men and 30lbs Women
- Bring your own empty rucksack or backpack- should be sturdy
- We provide the weight for your backpack at the start line (a covered sandbag)
- We will also have a scale provided on-site to ensure proper load
- Includes finisher coin + award eligibility
Don’t have a backpack?
No problem—while we recommend bringing your own, a limited number of extras will be available. Please email us in advance if you’ll need one and we will do our best to accomodate.
Hill Climb (Non-Ruck)
- Complete the climb without a backpack or added weight
- Open to all fitness levels
All entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE, no exceptions. Once your registration is accepted, no refunds will be issued if you are unable to participate. You may complete a one-time transfer to another participant or switch divisions within the same event (Ruck Challenge or Hill Climb) for a $15 fee.
