Description

That glow you see on the horizon is the 35th Annual Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club’s Firecracker Run. There are three distances, something for the whole family – a 10K, a 5K and a 1K for the kids.

This is the second run of the RUN SANTA CRUZ  Series- sponsored by Road iD. There will be three qualifying events - Go Green St. Patrick's Day Run - Santa Cruz Firecracker - Jingle Bell Rock.  Each event has a 1k, 5k, and 10k.   Participants will be assigned points based on overall finishing place, in all three races.

Registration is open. The only thing missing is you! Yep - that's right - registration for next year's race is open because the race is ALWAYS on July 4, and it's a Saturday in 2020.

Photos from this year's race can be found here.

Since 1985, The Firecracker 10k has been a Santa Cruz Independence Day tradition. Started by the City of Santa Cruz in 1985, the race was taken over by the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Club in 2004.  Chartered in 1985, SC Sunrise Rotary is a club of over 100 high-energy community and business leaders and volunteers drawn together by the common desire to give back to our community and beyond.

The proceeds from the Firecracker races, one of the largest annual benefit events, are applied to local community, national and international charity projects.

RACE SCHEDULE:

  • Kids’ 1K run at 8:00 AM
  • 10K starts at 8:30 AM and
  • 5K starts at 8:40 AM.
  • 10K/5K/1K awards commencing at 9:45 AM - 10:00 AM.

Course maps are available by clicking on the course map tab above.

PARKING: Free parking available at Costco (via the Sylvania Avenue entrance) and along Sylvania Avenue. Enter Harvey West Park via Encinal @ Hwy 9 and then turn left on Sylvania and park on Sylvania or in the Costco parking lot via the Sylvania Avenue entrance. Costco is closed on July 4th, so there is plenty of parking at Costco. But arrive early to avoid the race-day rush and leave time for the short walk/jog to the registration tables near the Harvey West pool.

AWARDS & PRIZES: Awards to top 3 in each 5-year age group. Merchandise prizes and name engraved on Champions Cup for overall male and female open winners and age-graded winners of 5K and 10K. Aptos Fleet Feet shoe certificates to top male and female age-graded winner + 13-18 age group winner. Blue ribbons to all 1K finishers and medals to top 3 male and female kids 10 and under in Kids’ 1K.

PLUS: Aerobics warm-up and Santa Cruz DJ Company will light your fire with warm-up tunes certain to pump you up.
