WHAT IS ALMAGEDDON??

Going into its second year, ALMAGeddon is the kind of race where athletes need to be ready for anything. Starting at 10,600 feet in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, you never quite know what Old Man Winter has in store. Snow? Wind? Bluebird skies? A little bit of everything? That's all part of the adventure.

While we can't guarantee the exact distances or even the disciplines, we can guarantee an unforgettable grassroots race experience. Expect a small field where everyone knows your name, genuine small-town hospitality, epic mountain scenery, and a warm, delicious post-race meal courtesy of our legendary One Pot Cook-Off Challenge.

Registration is limited to just 60 athletes, so don't wait. Secure your spot now and join us for one of the most unique winter endurance events you'll ever experience.

Because we are wishful thinking for a really good snow year we have updated the course to provide easier access to transition.

NEW COURSE. Our new course places a centralized transition at the top of the Paris Mill Hill. Athletes will ride their bikes approx. 2.8 miles up Buckskin Road to the transition area. Here they will transition to their skis for a moderate climb up Windy Ridge Road (CR783) 1.5 miles to the turn around and then 1.5 miles back downhill to the transition area. Athletes will then run/hike or snow shoe depending on the snow up Buckskin Road towards Kite Lake. This section of roadway is not plowed but we will create a run track with snowmobiles. Turn around at 1.5 miles and head back to transition. Finish up the race on your bike decsending Buckskin Road back to Town.

The course change will make for an amazing event, gorgous views and allow us to be more flexible with course corrections in the event we have weather on race day. The bike course will be suitable for either mountain bike or fat bike as it will be plowed up to the transition area.

ALSO NEW RELAY! With the single transition area, we can accomodate a discpline handoff and you can now form a team. Grab some buddies who ski, run or blike and split up the event. Athletes on a team can drive to the transition and stay cozy in their cars while their teammates race! We will have hot chocolate and an Aid Station in Transition.

Distances:

  • Bike (Fat or Mtn Bike) 2.8 Miles
  • Ski (Nordic, Backcountry) 3.0 Miles
  • Run/Hike/Snowshoe) 3.0 Miles
  • Bike (Fat or Mtn Bike) 2.8 Miles

Elevation Gain: 1479

Athletes must check-in by 9:15 am race morning. Athletes ski's and packs will be transported to the transition area.

Cool swag - yep!! All athlete's receive a one of kind ALMAGeddon neck gaiter super cool finisher award, post race food and beverages at Town Hall and age groups awards.

I'm not gonna lie, this race is complicated with multiple transition areas, gear transport, weather, snow conditions etc. And we need volunteers - and especially volunteers with snow mobiles (or ATV's that can handle snow).

All volunteers receive - our super cozy event wool socks AND an event hoodie (hey its cold out there) AND lunch during our post race celebration.
