Description

Here is your chance to run or walk down Main Street Newark DE without being chased by police.

For the past 10 years the Main Street Mile has been a signature event for the City of Newark.  It is unique because you get the chance to run or walk down Main Street with no cars and absolutely no traffic.  This just does not happen :-)

Nic DeCaire founded the Main Street Mile 10 years ago as a way to help fund the Newark Police K9.  Between this event and others he and his friends have put on over the years they have raised over $150,000 for the Newark Police K9 Unit.

Not only is this a great 1 Mile Race but it has an awesome after party at the DeerPark Tavern.  After you PR on this fast course stick around for some music, food, and stop by the Bloody Mary and Beer Tent for a drink.

This event is one you want to make sure is on your race calendar.

Here is some important information about bib pick up and race day.
DE School Challenge closes tonight at midnight.
We will announce the winning schools tomorrow on FACEBOOK.

EARLY BIB PICK UP
With close to 900 people registered, we highly recommend picking up your race packet on Friday to save you time on race day morning.
Early bib pick up is from 4-8pm on Friday October 6th at Fusion Fitness Center at 280 East Main Street Newark DE 19711.
*packets will not be available before 4pm

RACE DAY BIB PICK UP and DAY OF REGISTRATION
You can pick up your bib on Saturday morning from 745am – 845am at Fusion Fitness Center.
Lines to pick up your bib will be organized by last name.
*There are no exchanges on t-shirt sizes. Our volunteers will only be allowed to hand out the size you registered for.

If you have friends or family who still want to register day of they still can. Cost is $25 on day of registration so we urge them to pre register and save money.
PARKING INFORMATION
There are plenty of places to park on race day.
1. Market East Plaza where Fusion Fitness Center is located, including parking behind the building - will have spots but not enough for everyone. No parking will be allowed in front of Fusion.
2. City of Newark Municipal lots 1 (behind Grottos), 3 (behind Klondike Kate’s), and 4 (behind Caffe Gelato) - Reminder this is a pay lot.
3. Parking garage across from Deer Park - Reminder this is a pay lot.
*There is no parking on Main Street during this event. All cars on Main Street will be towed.
START and FINISH LINE
The starting line is on Main Street by the McDonalds. Please be at the starting line by 850am so we can get everyone lined up in the correct corrals. Corrals will be the following.
Corral 1 – under 6 minutes
Corral 2 – 6-7 minutes
Corral 3 – 7-9 minutes
Corral 4 – 9-12 minutes
Corral 5 – 12-15 minutes
Corral 6 – walkers and baby strollers
The finish line is at the entrance to the Deer Park. For the safety of others when you cross the finish line please proceed forward and into the Deer Park for the after party.

RIDER BIBS
All rider bibs for adaptive chairs and strollers with be with the bib associated with pushing them. Please ask for one at packet pick up.
AFTER PARTY
Immediately after the race we will be hosting an after party at Deer Park Tavern. Food and refreshments will be provided.
If you are 21 or older, you can take part in our complimentary Tito's bloody mary bar and Dogfish beer tent.

K9 DEMONSTRATION
Please stick around after the race for a K9 demo put on by the City of Newark Police Department in the Deer Park parking lot.

AWARDS
Awards will be given out after the completion of the event at the Deer Park. If you can stay for the award ceremony we will mail you your award. Award ceremony will be around 10am.
WEATHER
This is a rain or shine event. It will only be cancelled if we feel it is unsafe for participants.

Do you want to win $$$ for your school's PTO or PTA or Booster?  Fusion Racing is giving away $1,500 in prize money to five Delaware schools with the greatest number of participants on their team in the 11th-annual Main Street Mile on Oct. 7, 2017. 

All schools in Delaware are eligible to participate. Simply create a team for your school if one hasn't yet been created. Then, tell all your friends, family and co-workers to register under your school's TEAM.  

Registration ends at midnight Oct 5th 2017. The top five schools with the most participants on their team will win $$$ for their PTO or PTA. For questions or to set up a team, please contact nic@fusionracetiming.com.

FAQ's

1. What are the time limits for the races? Is the race walker friendly?

Walkers are welcome in all the races.  The 5K course is open for 1.5 hours.  

2. Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend?

Fusion Racing does NOT process refunds for events..  

3. I’m registered to run and I’ll be pushing a Rider in an adaptive running chair on the race course.  How do I sign up my Rider to get a Rider Bib?

Only people with a bib will be permitted on the race course.  Riders will need to register for a Rider Bib through their pushers registration, at no charge, by visiting the registration table during packet pick up.  Please ask for a Fusion Staff Member.

Please email fusioninclusionde@gmail.com so we know how many adaptive chairs to expect at the race and we can provide special instructions.

4.Are baby joggers or strollers allowed during the race?

If you choose to run with a baby jogger, you must seed yourself in the last corral–behind all other runners. It is your responsibility to make sure your baby jogger does not impede other runners, and you must take extra precaution to ensure your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any participant from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves.

To get a rider bib for your baby jogger or stroller please ask for you at packet pick up.

5.Why do I need to register for a Rider Bib and what do I get with my Rider Bib?

For your continued safety, it’s important that race officials are aware of each person on the race course.  In a medical situation, your emergency contact information will be obtained from your rider bib.  Rider bibs give you access to the race course only.  Riders do not receive any race swag, including but not limited to; race shirt, medal, finisher item, finisher food, etc.  A rider is permitted to register, at the current registration rate, as a race participant instead of as a Rider if he/she wishes to enjoy all of the race benefits.

6.Are pets permitted on the course?

For the safety of the participants and spectators, pets are not permitted in any of the Fusion Racing races.

7.Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc) allowed during the race?

Headphones are allowed for any runner who is not competing for a cash prize (if a cash prize is associated with the race).

However, we do strongly encourage that participants abstain from using headphones during the race.

8.Can I wear someone else's bib who cannot make the race?

It is imperative that the registration data associated with your race number does in fact belong to you, the participant.

While wearing someone else’s bib may seem harmless to the parties perpetrating the unauthorized bib transfer, it does convey serious consequences to the organizers and participant field alike.

From race results to finishers’ awards being impacted as well as medical staff being able to correctly identify participants in need of treatment, it is imperative that the registration data associated with your race number does in fact belong to you, the participant.

Thus, if race organizers become aware that a runner has participated in one of our events with a bib that is not registered to that runner, both the runner and the person to whom the bib is registered will be prohibited from participating in subsequent Fusion Racing events for a minimum of two years.
