The Gold Nugget Triathlon Board of Directors has chosen Healthy Futures as the 2024 charity of choice
Anchorage parent Bonny Sosa founded Healthy Futures 20 years ago this year. It was established with the goal of empowering Alaska’s youth to build the habit of daily physical activity. This remains Healthy Future’s mission today.
Healthy Futures provides a variety of programs, including:
The Healthy Futures Challenge: a free, three-month event that happens each fall and spring of the school year, where students from elementary schools around the state keep an activity log and are rewarded for reaching activity goals each month.
Their Event Support program works with organizers of over 100 sporting and recreation events across the state to promote healthy physical activity by providing, bibs, medals, ribbons, sound and DJ’s, medical support, race equipment, promotion, consultation, and role model athletes that come to support and inspire the attending youth.
Healthy Equity through the Game Changer Fund: youth or teams facing economic barriers can apply for support of up to $500 to allow them to participate in sports and recreation opportunities. They also allocate funding for coverage of entry fees to certain recreation events and coordination of bus services for Title 1 schools for children who would not otherwise have access to these events.
How to Support: Racers and event supporters are encouraged to make a donation to this important organization. Donations can be made during registration for the 2024 GNT or afterwards by a link that will be available here once registration opens.
GNT will match up to $2,500 in donations
