Who's Behind This Fun Run?
The Boise State Organization of Student Social Workers (OSSW) serves to provide the social work student community with an opportunity for additional growth and development during their college years. The organization seeks to offer a continual learning experience for students in the areas of policy decision making, administration, leadership, and organizational skills development. OSSW also provides a sharp focus towards the importance of community involvement and frequently seeks new opportunities to bring local organizations and students together for a great cause.
OSSW members have dedicated themselves to serving all Idahoans and have volunteered with numerous organizations including Interfaith Sanctuary, Family Advocates, Rake Up Boise, Idaho Food Bank, Women’s and Children’s Alliance, Ronald McDonald House, and many others. To better serve our community, social work students are seeking the opportunity to attend a national social work conference in order to further connect their classroom education to community practice. In addition, our members are dedicated to raising donations for Interfaith Sanctuary, which provides overnight shelter and supportive services for men, women, and families with children. Each $25 donation provides a guest of Interfaith Sanctuary with two nights of shelter.
Please join us in raising funds that will further the education and the skills of social work students at Boise State University while supporting Interfaith Sanctuary and the vital services they provide to Idahoans.
The 7k Route
The Groundhog 7k will start near Friendship Bridge and Albertsons' Library on Cesar Chavez Lane. The route will proceed along the beautiful Boise greenbelt on the south side of the river and proceed under Capitol Blvd and through Ann Morrison Park. It will continue along the river and then pass under Americana Blvd. and proceed to the 1923 Red Bridge. Here you will loop left (west) and do a quarter mile out and back (west on the greenbelt that connects to Garden Street--but you will not go as far as Garden Street). There will be someone stationed at the turnaround point to direct you. This person will direct you back to the 1923 Red Bridge and once you cross this bridge you will turn right (east) and head toward the Fireman's Memorial and then proceed on the north side of the Greenbelt along the Boise River. You are on your way back to Boise State. You will cross back under Americana Blvd. and then continue on the greenbelt to Capitol Blvd. (Anne Frank Memorial on your left) and then continue on the greenbelt into Julia Davis Park and proceed right to Friendship Bridge. Here you will cross over the Bridge and the finish line will be in sight, nestled on the beautiful Boise State campus just next to Albertsons' Library. Keep an eye out for bald eagles along the river--rumor has it they hunt groundhogs and the Boise River just happens to be their wintering grounds.
