White Ribbon 5K Race For Research

Donation Goal: $2,000

100% of race proceeds and donations will go to support the life-saving work of Breath of Hope Kentucky.

Breath of Hope Kentucky (BOHKY) is a local nonprofit founded by lung cancer survivor, Lindi Campbell, who is a native of Lexington and was diagnosed with the disease in 2017 at the age of 53. She never knew she
could get lung cancer and believes her diagnosis is likely due to secondhand smoke and radon exposure.

More than 230,000 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States in 2022 and Kentucky
ranks among one of the highest states for lung cancer cases and deaths. Although it is the deadliest of all
cancers it remains among the lowest federally funded diseases.

It is BOHKY’s mission to erase the stigma of lung cancer by educating others that anyone can get it. There are varied causes in addition to tobacco use including radon, secondhand smoke, and other environmental toxins we breathe. As many as 20% of those diagnosed with lung cancer today have never smoked and 60% have already quit smoking.

Our organization is dedicated to improving the survival statistic of lung cancer for all Kentuckians
through prevention education, community outreach, and funding research. 100% of all proceeds
support lung cancer initiatives that directly impact the state of Kentucky and its citizens. Our mission is to
educate the public about this disease and help erase the stigma by removing blame and shame and
focusing on compassion and a cure.
