McCoy Creek Trail Organization

The McCoy's Creek Trail has a rich historical background, which begins in the 1820’s. At this time, 13 mills were located along the McCoy’s Creek generating energy for the City of Buchanan. Today, the McCoy’s Creek Trail has been developed and now serves Buchanan as a non-motorized shared use path.

The trail features a 70 foot long mural showcasing the history of Buchanan and McCoy's Creek, viewable along the section of trail at Smith and Oak street. Completed in 2017, the mural tells the story of why Buchanan became the town it did because of McCoy's Creek.

The dog friendly trail is currently four miles one way, including loops, which branch off the main path. It extends from the E.B Clark woods on Schirmer to the Buchanan Farmers Market and includes several decks that overlook McCoy’s Creek. The path has some handicap access points and portions of which have more stable ground usable by wheelchair.

In addition to hiking and biking, you’ll find exercise stations, fishing spots and the popular Duck Pond – the perfect place to picnic and watch the ducks play.

Three access points and parking spaces are available: off of Schirmer Parkway, Days Avenue, and from the Memorial Fields Athletic Complex. Additionally, a mobile app exists to help inform and educate trail users about the trail and its environment.
