Danish, a Cornell sophomore from Afghanistan, is fundraising for Free to Run, which empowers girls and young women in conflict-affected regions through running. Growing up, she saw firsthand how war, gender apartheid, and systemic barriers make it nearly impossible for women to run freely. If she reaches her goal, she’ll run the New York City Marathon as just the seventh Afghan woman to finish.
