This race benefits The Foundation of CVPH and will be used to purchase items for our Kids Closet at UVM Health Network – CVPH in Plattsburgh. This closet is intended for two different types of children in need. There are items in our closet for children who have found themselves in the ER for medical care or waiting for transportation to another pediatric unit. These items include small teddy bears for comfort, fidget toys, small electronic writing pads, diverse dolls and so many other items. The closet has gained another use in the last few years. We have found children here visiting close family members while they are in the process of passing away. Our social workers, nurses and palliative care team often are taking teddy bears and books for children about loss of a loved one. We have heard that those teddy bears and books have meant so much to these children during very difficult times. All toys are given out and not borrowed due to infection control purposes and safety of our tiniest patients. This closet is accessible to all staff, any time of the day or night. We have heard some wonderful stories how these bears and fidget toys have provided comfort to children during difficult moments.
