Franklin County Parks and Recreation provides opportunities to stay active and build community in Franklin County, Virginia. Waid Park (the host to the Crooke Road 24 Hour Ultra) is the largest park in Franklin County and covers over 450 acres. It provides a beautiful landscape with an array of activities for the nature lover: biking, hiking, fishing, disc golf, sports fields, playgrounds, space for gatherings, and seasonal tubing. For history enthusiasts, a preserved quarter mile section of the “Great Wagon Road” or the “Carolina Road” runs through the park. This “road” stretched over 800 miles from Pennsylvania to Georgia and was used by early settlers to transport goods.
Waid Park has over 15 miles of multi-use trails. Franklin County Parks & Rec recently announced a newly created position for a Trail Builder, whose job it is to design, build, and maintain Franklin County's trails! We want to help out Franklin County P&R with their efforts by donating to their trail building, maintenance, and equipment fund. That way, we can ensure that the Crooked Road 24 Hour Ultra will always be on a well-maintained, smooth trail!
