Just Tri It Youth and Adult Triathlon (Draft)

Sat August 12, 2017 Manhattan, KS 66502 US Directions
This Race is in Draft Mode

Event: Just Tri It Youth Triathlon

The Just Tri It youth triathlon is a fun and challenging event for kids ages 5 - 14. Young athletes will swim, bike and run in this 3-event race that not only promotes fitness but improves self-confidence as participants cross the finish line on their own. A great introduction to the sport, the race will be completely contained within the boundaries of Manhattan City Park.

Junior race: 5 to 10 year olds (in 2 year age groups)
Senior race: 11 to 14 year olds (in 2 year age groups)

SWIM PORTION: Swimmers will line up in a single-file line based on race number. Swimmers will be sent off one at a time, every 20 seconds. Junior racers will swim across (25 yard width) the pool in one lane, next go under the lane rope into the next lane, and then swim back, which will complete their swim portion of the race. Senior division racers will do a similar serpentine swim as the Juniors but will use four lanes (25 yards in each lane) to complete their swim portion of the race.

Once racers have completed the Swim portion of the race they will exit the pool and head towards the Transition Area where they will get their bike.

Swim vests are allowed. Arm floats and other flotation devices are not allowed. There will be lifeguards on duty.

BIKE PORTION: Once racers have retrieved their bike they will be required to walk their bike out of the Transition Area to the Bike Mount Zone where they can then get on their bike and head towards the sidewalk along the Poyntz Avenue side of the park. When racers reach the intersection of Poyntz Avenue and Springboard Lane they will be directed to make a right hand turn onto the sidewalk where they will then proceed around the park in a clockwise manner. Once racers reach the intersection on Poyntz Avenue and Springboard Lane they will be required to make a mandatory pit stop to receive a wrist band which will identify how many laps they have completed. Once a Junior racer has received two wristbands they will be directed to head back to the Transition Area to drop off their bike and start the run portion of the race; Similarly once a Senior racer has received four wristbands they will be directed back to the Transition Area to start the run portion of the race.

All bikes are allowed, as long as they are in safe, working condition (and do not have a motor). No training wheels will be allowed. There will be volunteer bike mechanics the. morning of the race to help with any unforeseen bike issues but it is suggested that you make sure the bike is in good, working order before coming to the race.

Bike helmets will be required to be worn during the bike portion of the race.

There will not be a water station along the bike course.

There will be race staff/volunteers at all intersections/road crossings to help ensure no traffic enters the park during the race and to help guide the racers.

RUN PORTION: Once racers have put their bike back in the Transition Area (in the same place it was before they started the bike portion) they will leave the Transition Area and begin the run course. The run course will be clearly marked and there will be plenty of volunteers on hand to help guide them as they complete the 'run course and head towards the finish line.

There will be a water station along the run course.

TIMING: The race will be timed using a chip and mat timing system. Each athlete will, nave a chip that they strap to their ankle with a velcro strap. There will be timing mats placed at key locations of the course that will track their time for each leg of the race.

RACE GEAR: Each athlete will need: (The list below indicates the minimum items needed for the race, each racer should bring any extra items that they feel they will need).
