🍀 OUR HISTORY — WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The first official Irish Road Rover 5K took place in Portland, Maine, in 1997. But the spirit behind the Rover goes back much further!
Years earlier, in Syracuse, New York, my brother Tommy and his friends began a St. Patrick's Day tradition of their own. Each year, they would gather early in the morning for a run around Schiller Park on the city's North Side.
There were no big crowds, no fancy awards, and no grand production. Just a group of friends sharing a run, some laughs, and the joy of being together.
That spirit of fun, friendship, and competition is what the Irish Road Rover has always been about.
Thirty years later, we're proud to keep that tradition alive.
So when you've crossed the finish line, stick around, raise a glass, and share a toast — to running, to good health, and to good friends, both old and new!
And to the guys who started it all...
Tommy, Mike, Soapy, Terry, Dave, and the whole gang — THANK YOU!
🍀 Here's to 30 years of the Irish Road Rover — and to keeping the tradition running! 🍀
