Whaling Port Walk Virtual Challenge- 557.58 miles (2.6 miles per day)

Your virtual journey starts in Camp May, NJ. While not a whaling port, the first town at Camp May was a whaling village, also known as Town Bank. The people at Town Bank engaged in shore whaling. Whale hunting was a community effort. The residents of Town Bank would congregate on a high bluff overlooking the water. When whales were spotted, the whalers rowed out in locally built wooden boats to catch and capture the whales. As early as 1666, whaling businesses (such as Hughes and Company) were established. By 1700, the whales had largely disappeared from Delaware Bay.

Walk/run, cycle/roller blade, or paddle/kayak/swim 557.8 miles on a course of your own choosing to hit other major whaling ports and places of historic interest! Log your miles and earn virtual badges and unlock fun facts for historical East Coast whaling ports as you hit distance milestones.
