The Flatwoods 5K is run just after sunrise on a natural, scenic limerock loop at the Austin Cary Forest.  Proceeds support the operation of the Forest.

An independent survey of over 100 local runners in 2013 ranked this race #1 among all 5K races in the area.  Participants raved about the beauty of the Forest, the quality of the race organization, the friendly supportive volunteers, the locally produced refreshments and, of course, the now-famous pine cone trophies!

NEW this year ... Free pair of shoes from Lloyd Clarke Sports to M and F Open and Masters winners!  Free entry for all runners age 14 and under!  T-shirts are technical material this year!  Kid Corral for parents with young children!

Registration and Packet Pickup

Packet pickup is Thursday April 3 and Friday April 4, 11:30 am—1:30 pm and 5:30 pm —7:30 pm, in the parking lot south of Newins-Ziegler Hall across Museum Road, UF campus.

Online registration is closed.  You may still register in person during the packet pickup times listed above, for $15.  There is no registration charge for those age 14 and under.

Onsite day-of-race registration is 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. in the lighted, screened-in pavilion adjacent to the parking area at the Forest.  Day-of-race registration is $20.

To minimize the cost of the Flatwoods 5K to runners, we do not include the cost of a T-shirt in the registration fee.  Rather, we have a limited supply as add-ons for those who want them.  This year's T-shirt is technical moisture-wicking material in grey, with the 2014 race logo in white.  It looks sharp and is quite wearable with no sponsor images on the back.  Cost is $10 per shirt, and you can buy them on race day as the supply lasts. We cannot guarantee you will get a t-shirt!

Kid Care During The Race

Want to run, but think you can't because your toddler can't keep up?  No problem!  Adult volunteers will keep your kids entertained with nature-based activities, coloring books, etc. near the start/finish area.  Or use your jogging stroller (just make sure it's got big wheels - the road is not paved).  So, go ahead and work up a sweat - your kids will have a blast!

If you plan to use the Kid Corral, please let John know how many we can expect (

After The Race

Age group awards built using slash and loblolly pine cones from the Forest are given three deep, M and F, in the traditional 5 yr categories.  Open and Master's winners, M and F, receive shoes from Lloyd Clarke Sports (@$100 value!), super-sized longleaf pine cone trophies, and free entry to next year's race.

Postrace food is produced locally by Henderson & Daughter (citrus) and the Bagel Bakery (bagels and mini-muffins).  Check out some trails near the start/finish area, learn massage techniques for runners with Laura TeHennepe, tour the new Austin Cary Learning Center to be dedicated on race day, and more!
