Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 9:00 am at Seville Quarter in downtown Pensacola. Join with us for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Festival of San Fermin - the patron Saint of Pamplona Spain. This annual event, made famous by author Earnest Hemingway, has participants chased by angry horned bulls. The Pensacola Encierro features the Pensacola Roller Gurlz as the “Bulls and Ghouls".
As the first canon is set off at 9:00 a.m. the runners will take to the roughly one-mile course. At the second canon blast the Bulls will be released, wielding Wiffle bats, to chase down the participants. As is customary in Pamplona runners are requested to wear all white with red kerchiefs or sashes (or choose to dress in costume in the spirit of Halloween). Prizes will be awarded to get creative!
New this year, as a kick-off to "Hallo-month", is the Children's Activity Area in the side Parking Lot at Seville Quarter. Dress up the kids and visit the free "Little Ghouls Kid's Area." USO volunteers will be on hand with candy, activities, refreshments, and a costume contest. Our wonderful USO volunteers will be supervising kid's activities and the BULLS will be on hand for photographs with the "little ghouls".
Following the Running of the Bulls, the festival will continue in Phineas Phogg's in Seville Quarter with Latin entertainment, cash bar, and awards ceremony. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Group, Best Horns (Roller Derby Bulls), Best Senor, Best Senorita, Most outlandish costume, and the Viva! Spirit Award. There will also be a VIP area with food, drinks, and special seating. Space is limited in the VIP area and special registration is required.
On-sight registration and packet pick-up will be Friday, October 1 from 4 to 7 pm and Saturday, October 2 from 7 to 8:30 am at Seville Quarter, 130 East Government Street, Pensacola 32502. Shirts and bandanas are not guaranteed to late registered participants. They will be distributed on a "first come" basis as supplies last. Sizes are only guaranteed to participants registered before September 20.
The Running of the Bulls is proud to partner with USO Northwest Florida. All proceeds benefit the USO as they continue to provide a home away from home for service members and their families. The USO expresses America’s gratitude and commitment to service members and their families through programs focused on connection, strengthening, wellness and resiliency.
The mission of the USO is to strengthen America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service to the nation. USO Northwest Florida has five centers and serves fifteen bases in our area. Last year, more than 220,000 military members were served in local USO centers and another 190,000 through outreach programs. This would not be possible without fundraising events like Running of the Bulls.
