Frequently Asked Questions
What happens with the money raised from the IAFF Fire Within 5k?
Funds raised through the Fire Within 5k will be split three ways:
- One third will go to the general fund that supports the American Cancer Society‘s mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. These dollars are used to make a difference by funding critical research, educating people on prevention and early detection, and providing free information and services to help people facing cancer today-including transportation, lodging, wigs, support programs and more. For more information visit www.cancer.org.
- One third will support the work that the American Cancer Society specifically does to support fire fighters, emergency medical and rescue workers.
- One third will go to the International Fire Fighters Association Foundation's mission to protect and assist IAFF members who put their lives on the line to save others, as well as the communities they serve. For more information visit www.iafffoundation.org.
Is there a required fundraising minimum?
There is no fundraising minimum, however in order to make the biggest impact we can, we recommend all participants set a minimum fundraising goal of $100.

We will be presenting awards to our top three male and top three female runners.
When and where is packet pickup?
IAFF members attending the Redmond/Barbera conference will be able to pick up their race materials Tuesday of the conference from 7am to 9am and 2pm to 6pm at the ACS/IAFF 5k table. Packet pickup will also be available the day of the race from 5:15am to 6am at the starting area.

What should I do if I raise funds offline?
You may send collected checks to the American Cancer Society. Please be sure to include the mail in donation form so we can credit you or your team properly.
