2021 Florida Virtual Challenge

Wed January 1 - Thu May 5 Any City, FL 33710 US

Here is a broad statement about our Florida Virtual Challenge, which will answer many of your questions before you even ask them:
Our virtual CHALLENGES are based entirely on the honor system, meaning you do NOT need to send us photos or any other records of your tracking devices. That said, you DO need to log your miles at our website – this is done manually - so we can track your progress. These virtual challenges are set up to provide some extra motivation for athletes to stay in shape, after so many event directors have been forced to cancel or postpone their live events worldwide. Our travel logs are intended to spice up your adventure by painting a picture of the towns and cities you virtually travel through, while also learning a little more about Florida – the Sunshine State. This means it is also up to individual athletes to determine what counts in tracking their mileage. Obviously, a run, walk, or ride around the neighborhood counts, as does mileage completed on a treadmill or am indoor trainer. Taking your dog for a walk or steps attained from the moment you wake up until you climb into bed – well those examples are up to you. At the end of this epic journey, it is up to each athlete to earn their bragging rights and the pride to wear their finisher medal, take a selfie, and share it with their friends. This is YOUR run, walk or ride!

How do I track my distance?
Tracking your distance is up to you. Use your favorite fitness device, your car, or on-line aps such as www.MapMyRun. As long as you’re moving forward – running, walking, or cycling on a treadmill or trainer, on a trail or track, walking your dog – all miles are good miles.
Do I need a GPS tracker (Garmin, Strava, etc.) to participate?
Fitness devices will make your tracking easier and generally more precise, but they are not necessary for our purposes since the miles you enter on this site are on the honor system.
Can I walk?
Yes, miles are miles. This is a walker-friendly event. We encourage participants of all ages and abilities.
Can I ride my bicycle and count them as miles?
YES, absolutely, if you are registered for one of the cycling events. Also, while we frown upon combining mileage from running and cycling, it is entirely up to you to determine a ration that makes sense. For instance, perhaps you count your cycling mileage on a 5:1 basis, meaning for every 5 miles cycled, you add 1 mile to your run tally. Again, this is entirely up to each athlete.
Can I register after the start date?
Yes, we have re-formatted this CHALLENGE to eliminate the deadlines, as we know from first hand experience how injuries, illnesses and other obstacles sometimes can't be overcome, especially with a long distance challenge. Your start date kicks off upon your registration and continues until you stop recording mileage.
Do I report my miles on a daily basis?
If you ran, walked, or cycled that day, you should report it. You will see your progress on the Florida course map. The goal is to achieve the mileage you signed up for. YES, you can record mileage from previous days.
Can I “double-dip” and use mileage from another race during my registered time-span?
Yes, for our purposes, that counts, but ultimately, it is completely up to you!
How do I report my miles?
You can enter your daily miles at this website. You will see your progress on the Florida course map as well.
What do the medals look like?
Please see the design under the RUN INFO section. The base is 4” square, and the "dangle" specifying your achievement adds another 2" - all with full color ribbons.
Are the medals the same for each distance?
The basic design will be the same for all finisher medals. However, medals will be unique to each distance.
Are the bibs the same for each distance?
The basic design will be the same for all bibs. However, bibs will be unique to each distance. In addition, your digital race bib will be personalized with your name and unique bib number.
When will I receive my run bib?
Once you register, you will be able to download and print your personalized bib from this website, accessible from your personal profile page.
When will I receive my commemorative shirt?
We will mail your shirt soon after you register, to the address you used for registration. So, if you’ll be vacationing during your race, please register with your vacation address.
When do I receive my finisher medal?
We’ll mail your medal when you complete the distance of your run. Please note – we send finisher medals ONLY to those athletes who finish their run AND record their mileage at our Results Page.
Will you ship my SWAG to me if I live outside the U.S.A.?
Absolutely. Your higher entry fees covers the extra cost of international shipping.
We are accepting donations for our non-profit Running Starfish Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization recognized by the IRS on August 16, 2019. Accordingly, “Donors can deduct contributions they make to you under IRC Section 170.”

Our plan is to distribute these donations during these challenging times to support those who support our races. The following lost irreplaceable income with the cancelation of our spring races at the last minute:
• Micro-grants, no greater than $500 each, directly to our loyal, freelance, contracted race crew members who work hard to make our races happen
• Donations to several small local and loyal non-profits who provide volunteers to our races

Should donations exceed our expectations, we reserve the right to add new non-profit organizations for distribution of funds.

On behalf of those individuals and non-profits we seek to support, THANK YOU!
