Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to register? Below is a schedule of fees and deadlines. 5K and Kids Fun Run registration fees include a t-shirt, swag bag, and refreshments. Please note: A small processing fee will be applied to the transaction total at time of online check out. Late/walk-in registrants are NOT guaranteed a shirt.

5K Run/Walk (no timing)

Kids ¼ Mile Fun Run Children 10 and under (no timing)

On May 20th - $20

When does online registration close? Thursday, May 18th at 11:59pm - no exceptions will be made! Late/Walk-in registration is available on event day May 20th at venue beginning at 9:00am.

Can I register for the event offline? Yes, click here for printable registration form or contact skerschenheiter@forever-families.org for registration assistance.

After online registration is closed, can I still register? YES! You can register in person on event day at Saturday, May 20th at the event venue, Nankin Mills Park/Shelter 1 beginning at 9:00am. Shirts are not guaranteed during late registration day.

Is this a timed event? No. The 5K Fun Run/Walk for Foster Care Awareness is a non-competitive event fun run. No clock/chip timing.

What is the route? Click for a map for the 5K route. The children participating in the Kids Fun Run will be running the circumference of Nankin Mills Drive. Parent/guardian escorts OK.

If my child is participating in the Kids Fun Run, do I the parent/guardian need to register for the kids run? No - if your child is participating in the Kids Fun Run and you would like to escort them, you do not need to register for this event. However, if you would like to participate in the 5k event or/and would like an event t-shirt you will need to register as an adult for the 5K run/walk.

Is there a gear check? No.

Where do I park? Parking is available at Nankin Mills Park/Pavilion Area. Click here for map.  The Nankin Mills Park/Picnic Area is located 300 feet east of Ann Arbor Trail on the south side of Edward Hines Drive. PLEASE NOTE: Hines Dr. is CLOSED from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive from 9:00AM-3:30PM every Saturday from the months of May to September. You must go around the first set of barricades at Ann Arbor Trail/Hines Dr. to get to the picnic site/event venue. ONLY THE FIRST SET OF BARRICADES. Entrance to Nankin Mills picnic area is located right after the first set of barricades. Anyone caught going around the 2nd set of barricades can be ticketed.

Do I have to fundraise? The purpose of this event is to raise funds in order to support the mission of Forever Families. While there is no fundraising minimum, we welcome donations and fundraising efforts.

How do I turn in my donations? All donations can be turned in on race day at the registration tables or directly mailed to Forever Families’ office at 17940 Farmington Rd. Ste. 301 Livonia, MI 48152. ATTN: 5K Run/Walk

Are dogs allowed? Yes! Bring your four-legged friend to join in the fun! All waggers must be on leash.

I will be out of town/busy on May 20th - can I still get a shirt and/or fundraise? Yes! You can still be a fellow supporter and fundraise if you aren’t able to attend the event. Contact the Forever Families office to make arrangements to pick up your shirt. Your registration fee and any fundraising will be greatly appreciated by Forever Families and those we serve!

What if there is inclement weather and the weather person is telling us to stay inside? Chances are the Forever Families 5K Fun Run/Walk for Foster Care Awareness is still on… rain or shine! We won't shut this event down unless the City of Westland Parks & Recreations tells us to. We will also post any updates on Forever Families Facebook page.

Are registration fees refundable or can I transfer my registration to another participant if I am not able to attend? Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are unable to attend the event (for any reason), you're registration fee will be considered a donation to Forever Families and you can still pick up your shirt at the agency’s office. Forever Families reserves the right to cancel the 5K Fun Run/Walk for Foster Care Awareness, and in this event, all registration fees will be considered as donations to Forever Families.

Can I exchange my shirt for a different size? On the day of the event (after the run/walk) ONLY if additional sizes/extras are available. You will be provided with the size requested during registration and we must do the same for everyone. Please understand that we do not order many extra shirts and sizes will likely be limited.

Are there any volunteer opportunities? Absolutely! Volunteers are an essential part of bringing this fun event to life. We are so grateful for amazing volunteers who generously donate their time and efforts to help make this event a success. Volunteer opportunities include set up/clean up, course marshals, water stop, registration, food/drink, and more. Please contact skerschenheiter@forever-families to learn more.
