Fox's Hourglass Ultra is a standard backyard ultra format with the exception of the time limit (24 hours). It is a 24-hour event where participants run a 4.167 mile marked loop on the hour every hour. Each loop begins exactly one hour after the last. If the participant is not in the starting corral for the initial start, the participant is disqualified and receives a “Did Not Finish” (DNF). Each participant must complete the loop and be back at the starting corral within the hour in order to continue. If a participant fails to start or finish a loop within the allotted hour, the participant is out of the race and receives a DNF. Note, the event can end prior to the 24th hour.
Q:) Is there a maximum number of participants for the event? Yes, we will have a maximum number of 40 participants.
Q:) What is the required gear for participants at Fox's Hourglass Ultra? Starting at 7pm, a headlamp and reflective vest is required for the evening loops. Event Staff will be checking to make sure you have this gear on event morning.
Q:) What types of food will be available at Fox's Hourglass Ultra? The event will supply water and the standard ultra running event food. Several other options of "real" food will be available and we will share those once we get closer to the event. If you have any recommendations, please share on Facebook Page or contact us.
Q:) Will there be a handbook/rule guide for the Fox's Hourglass Ultra? Yes, we are working on one and it will be communicated via Facebook, email and this registration site. Once released, please reference it or please contact us with any questions.
Q:) May I have a pacer during each loop or during the event? No pacing is allowed. If someone would like to run with you, get them to sign up for the event!
Q:) Can aid be given during each loop? No aid can be given to you or dispersed along the course. Access new aid (food/drink) after you finish your loop but before leaving for your next loop. You can carry aid with you on the loop but cannot have your support team give you anything once you’ve started the loop and you cannot “drop aid off” during the loop to be accessed. Crew and non-race participants are not permitted to provide aid to participants except between loops after they finish/before they start the next loop.
Q.) I pre-registered but now I will not be able to do the race. Can I get a refund? Sorry, you will not be able to join us this year. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a refund. However, your registration can be transferred to another participant. Please see our Transfer Registration page.
Q.) Where do I pick up my race packet? Packet pick will occur at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve on Friday, October 8, 2027 from 5-7pm. Participants can also pick up their packet on race day at the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve from 5-7:30am.
Q.) Will there be water along the course? No, participants should carry their own water.
Q.) Are dogs allowed at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve during the event? No, dogs are not allowed at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve
Q.) Can I transfer my registration to a different participant? If you no longer plan to race, prior to October 1st you have the option of transferring your registration to a new registrant. In order to accomplish this, complete the following steps:

Note: The participant initiating the transfer will pay a $5 transfer fee. This participant will receive a refund of the entry fee, less processing fee. The refund will not be initiated until the new registrant registers and pays.
Q.) What is Base Camp/Village at Fox's Hourglass Ultra? The Base Camp/Village is a green space allotted for the participants to bring their own 10'x10' tent to set up for the event. Camping tents will not be allowed. Staking the tent is not allowed, so the event recommends participants to bring weighted buckets/jugs for the 10'x10' canopy tent.
Q.) Will proceeds be donated to an organization? Yes, Proceeds from the event would be donated back to the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve to benefit programming and trail improvements, etc.
