FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
IS IT A CLOSED COURSE?
No the race course is not a closed course. Please be safe and aware of running abreast in any congested areas on the course. Visually impaired or other special needs participants are encouraged to contact gocommandohalfmarthon@gmail.com in advance of the event to obtain a complimentary entry for their running guide.
WILL THE RACES BE CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS?
The race will be held rain, snow, sleet, heat, or shine – there are no “rain” dates for races. In conjunction with safety official and county authorities, the race organizers reserve the right to delay an event start for any reason, including weather.
ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED?
Yes, strollers are allowed on the 5K and half marathon course. There is no additional cost for strollers or children in strollers. However, if you do not pay and register the children, they will not be counted as a participant, be timed, receive a t-shirt or be eligible for any prizes. Safety requirements include that strollers must start in the back, may not weave through packs of runners, and must always yield the right of way to other runners.
IS THERE A KIDS RACE?
Yes, there is a separate Kids Fun Run for children 10 years and younger. Registration is $5 and includes a race bib and medal. For an additional $5 a children’s t-shirt can be purchased.
ARE SKATES, SCOOTERS, OR SKATEBOARDS ALLOWED?
For safety reasons, all bikes, scooters, skateboards, and skates will not be allowed. The only bikes allowed on the race course will be for race personnel – bikers leading the race. Only strollers and jogging strollers will be allowed on the course with the runners and walkers.
ARE EARBUDS OR HEADPHONES ALLOWED?
Earbuds and headphones are not recommended, however a participant who chooses to wear earbuds or headphones while running assumes full responsibility for their use. Participants must be able to hear all instructions and directions given by race course personnel and be aware of their surrounding at all times.
ARE DOGS ALLOWED?
Dogs will be allowed, but they must be on a 5 foot leash (no retractable leashes). Dogs must be up to date with their shots, good around other dogs and people, and no history of fighting or biting. You must have bags to pick up after your dog, if he happens to go to the bathroom. All participants with dogs will start towards the back of the starting line to allow all runners to start first. Pet owners take full responsibility for the behavior of their dog, may not weave through packs of runners and must yield the right of way to other runners.
DO YOU HAVE TO PICK-UP RACE PACKETS PRIOR TO THE RACE?
We highly recommend you pick up your packets on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 11 am – 7 pm at the Go Commando Health & Fitness Expo located at Old Glory Distilling Co. on 451 Alfred Thun Rd. At that time participants will be given their shirt and timing bib. You can also pick up your packet on race day from 6 am – 7 am. If you would like someone else to pick-up your race packet for you, please fill out the RACE ENTRY PICKUP WAIVER FORM, a copy of the runner’s unexpired ID, and registration confirmation email.
CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK-UP MY RACE PACKET?
A runner may pick up a packet for someone else. Please ensure that all runners involved know their packets are being collected as duplicates cannot be issued. If you would like someone else to pick-up your race packet for you, please fill out the RACE ENTRY PICKUP WAIVER FORM, a copy of the runner’s unexpired ID, and registration confirmation email.
WILL THERE BE A BAG CHECK?
We do offer a volunteer-manned bag check station. Items are left at your own risk; items not retrieved by the designated time are taken to a secured area; and items left after seven days will be donated to charity. Please contact the race director by email to arrange the pick-up of your items at gocommandohalfmarathon@gmail.com
WILL TIMES BE POSTED?
Yes, times will be posted on the internet, as well as the race site https://runsignup.com/gocommando/results
CAN YOU WALK THE 5K AND HALF MARATHON?
You can walk the races, but there is a 4-hour time limit.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT HEATS?
At this time, there will be only 2 heats (one for the half marathon and one for the 5K). If there is large participation, this might change. The benefits of chip timing is that your time does not start until you personally cross the start line and does not stop until you cross the finish line. We will encourage all walkers and people with strollers and dogs to stay towards the back of start line and runners towards the front. The half marathon will start at 7:30 am and the 5K will start at 8:00 am. The Kids Fun Run will start at 10:30 am.
ARE THERE ANY REFUNDS?
Sorry, there are no refunds available. This is a charity race where all proceeds benefit Rotary Charities. However, if you need to defer your race entry for the following year, please contact the race director at gocommandohalfmarathon@gmail.com.
HOW ARE THE AWARDS DISTRIBUTED?
Overall race winners and any/all money prizes will be awarded by Gun time; all other divisions are awarded by chip time.
If an Age Group Award is not collected on site, winners must contact the race director at gocommandohalfmarathon@gmail.com to arrange a separate pick up within a limited timeframe of four weeks. We regret that age group awards cannot be mailed.
Youth, high school, collegiate, and/or other amateur athletes are responsible for being aware of eligibility rules as it relates to awards such as cash or merchandise. The athlete is responsible for notifying the Race Director if some award other than cash prize purse needs to be awarded as a substitute, in which case cash prizes will not roll up. Specific eligibility questions need to be referred to the appropriate coach, athletic director, or governing body. The race organizers accepts no responsibility for eligibility violations.
