Event Description

                                                                  Ho’ōla-To Heal

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, we welcome runners, joggers, and walkers of all fitness levels to unite at the Ho‘ōla 5K. This new 3.1-mile race through Kalama Valley is professionally timed for competitive participants, while also allowing strollers in a family-friendly environment.

This race aims to foster connection and care within our local community by raising funds for the Hawai‘i Primary Care Association. HPCA is a nonprofit organization that strengthens Hawai‘i’s primary care system by advocating for, expanding access to, and sustaining high‑quality health care through its statewide network of Community Health Centers. For over 30 years, HPCA has supported community-driven health care that improves access for underserved and vulnerable populations across Hawai‘i.

In addition to fundraising, the Ho‘ōla 5K amplifies awareness of healthcare disparities and empowers participants to make a lasting impact through every step of the race. For those who wish to contribute further, this site features a donations page.

The Ho’ōla 5K will start at 7:00 a.m. The race start and finish will be at Kalama Valley Community Park.

There will be awards for the overall top 3 female and male finishers as well as the top 3 male and female finishers in 5 year age groups.

There will also be awards for the top three finishers in the stroller division. Only the runner pushing the stroller needs to register, not the child in the stroller.

Following the race there will be refreshments at the park.

Race tee shirts will be available for purchase during registration.

Hoʻōla was inspired by the vision of Punahou Junior Alec Wong

Image

Alec's passion for both science and running shapes her vision for community impact. Since eighth grade, she has been deeply interested in biology and aspires to become a medical researcher, driven by a desire to better understand and address the systemic inequities present in healthcare today. Alongside her academic interests, Alec has cultivated a dedication to running, beginning with her first half marathon (the Val Nolasco in 2024) and continuing through her involvement in ILH Cross-Country and Track & Field, as well as multiple distance races since. By helping bring this event to life, Alec hopes to unite her passions for healthcare and distance running while inspiring others to recognize the power they have to support and uplift their community. Her vision of the Ho'ōla 5K extends beyond simply organizing a race; it is about creating a space where community, awareness, and action converge. The goal is to bring people of all backgrounds and experience levels into a shared effort to support equitable access to healthcare. By blending a family-friendly atmosphere with a purposeful cause, the race emphasizes that collective actions can contribute to larger change. Ultimately, it aims to leave participants not only with a sense of accomplishment but also with a deeper awareness of healthcare disparities and a lasting motivation to stay engaged in supporting others.
