Things have changed! We will hold this race as planned but there will be new rules and procedures in place for everyone's safety and to prevent the spread of Covid-19 Virus.
The race starts at 7:00 a.m. Check-in will begin at 5:45 a.m. in the park. Pre-registered runners will pick up their bib number at designated tables using social distancing at all times. Face covers or masks are required prior to the race start. If you do not have your own mask or face cover, one will be provided.
The Shark Chase will begin on the beach at Kailua Beach Park. You will line up in waves (of runners, not water) at social distance according to your assigned corral. Small flags will be placed six feet apart on the beach to guide you in lining up. Once everyone is lined up, the Shark will be given a small head start, and the first wave will start. We will use a start mat to record your individual start time so that you will have an accurate time for your race no matter where you start in the wave start line-up. Out and back course. Start near the Kailua Beach Park Boat Ramp. The wave-washed course follows the shoreline to a turnaround point near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, then back to the start area. The entire course is on the beach. Shoes are optional - you will probably run through some shallow water depending on the tide and your desire to make a splash. There will be a "shark" to chase - the shark gets a head start. Can YOU beat the shark? There is no separate packet pick-up, get your bib number on race morning. Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers only on race day. NOTE: With a wave start, it is possible that the first person to cross the finish line is not the overall winner. Chip time will determine the overall winners and the age group winners. Age group awards may be picked up at the Running Room, 810 Kapahulu Ave., from Monday, July 13, 2020, through Sunday, July 19, 2020.
Talk story after the race! All participants are invited to remain in the park after the race and talk story at social distance. Safe areas will be marked on the grass near check-in for gathering. Beach mats will be provided or you may bring chairs to place in the designated areas. Face covering will be required before and after the race.
