Description
Proceeeds of this event are going for Van Laten Park Storywalk Trail – a new trail to be installed by Lan-Oak Park District this year, which will feature sequential boards, along the new exercise trail, telling a story both in English and Spanish. Story Walk is an amazing project. A park with a pretty long pathway is required and we have that at Van Laten Park. Aluminum/plexiglass displays are installed a certain distance apart along the pathway. Each display contains two pages from an age appropriate book. Children must walk the entire pathway in order to read the entire book. This promotes three really important elements for children: 1) Get outside, 2) Walk for fitness, and 3) Read!! The book is changed monthly to keep kids coming back. And the books will be varied – one will have a Spanish translation, one will be a movement book, one will incorporate sign language – so much to learn!
Story Walk is already approved and will be coming to Van Laten Park soon – easily by Fall 2016. In addition, we will be repairing and improving the Van Laten picnic shelter and installing a brand new, storybook-themed playground.
Tri-Church 5k for Lansing Parks is a fun way to spend Saturday morning with family and friends, celebrating the community development that the Lord is helping us do through this annual event. This is a timed community event hosted by three area churches: New Hope Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church and In The Upper Room Ministries MB Church. Prizes will be awarded to top participants.
You can complete the 5K by way of: run, jog, walk, rollerblade/skate, skateboard, scooter, or wheelchair, but only runners and walkers will be awarded prizes for top finishes. Everybody is welcome!
Race day registration begins at 8:30am. Online registration ends September 23.
