Description

The Springfield Bicycle Club is excited to present our newest event, the Sangamon Gravel Series brought to you by The Body Quest Store! Join us for a series of rides from May through August and explore what the Springfield area has to offer when you venture off of the beaten path. May, June, and July rides will offer approximately 20, 40, and 60 mile options so everybody can pick a route that meets their needs. 40 and 60 mile routes will have convenience stores located around the 20 and 40 mile points. The August ride will have two very different 30-mile loops that meet at the start point, where the SBC will set up a refreshment stand. You can ride either 30-mile route or do them both with a rest stop in the middle!

This is a no-cost event, so there will be no SAG offered. As a gravel rider, you're probably already self-sufficient enough to fix a flat or minor mechanical on the road and if you're not, make some friends out there! But that's just the basic highlights.

Points-Based Competition
The most exciting part of the series will be a points-based competition during the first three rides. Each route will have three gravel segments selected where riders will have the option of competing to do their best efforts. Points will be awarded based on the best times set that day on Strava, with leaderboards tracked for men and women. We have sponsors lined up for the event, so stay tuned for details on prizes! At the minimum we will have prizes for the top three men and women in the points categories, and expect to have SWAG and random drawings for prizes so that nobody is left out of the fun.

While this is not a race, our encouragement of competition on the points segments means that we will use BikeSignup.com so that we can track participants and waivers. This is a no-cost registration, but it will be mandatory for points competition eligibility. Whether you want to get out for a fun spin around some gravel roads you may not have ridden yet, put down some blistering times on the competitive segments, or just get some rides in with great friends and scenery, we hope you'll join us in making this first edition of the Sangamon Gravel Series a success!

Dates and locations:

  • May 25 - Springfield Centennial Park
  • June 22 - Loami
  • July 27 - Riverton Field of Dreams
  • August 24 - Jim Edgar Panther Creek

This event will be updated with routes and details as we approach each event, and you can keep current with discussion and details on our Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/782650436593916

Jersey store open for a limited time!

You may have seen me riding in a pretty slick jersey the last couple of weeks and wondered "is this guy good enough to be sponsored now?!" Well that's a definite no! It's a prototype for an SGS event jersey! If you want to get hands on one for yourself, I've opened up the store for orders! Store is open until April 26, with expected delivery in time to have it before the first SGS ride. We have both club and race cut jerseys, and based on my race cut sample they run true to size (5'11", 155lb, and a medium slim is a perfect fit for me). Be sure to check their sizing guidelines!

We'll open the store once more after the third event for anyone that misses out on this first batch. And at that time, we'll also be putting together a super secret special champions jersey to award to the podium in the points competition!
