FAQ's

FAQs

Q: How does a virtual challenge work?
A: Look yourself in the mirror. Decide what you are made of. Select a challenge distance you can cover without any trouble or pick one that will push you to really challenge yourself. Once you select your distance you have 90 days to stay accountable and cover your mileage goal.

Q: How do I switch distances after I have already registered?

A: Watch this video on how to manage your registration and switch distances.

Q: Do I have to run the whole way?
A: No. You can run, walk, hike or bike. You just have to move and move often. Those miles aren't going to complete themselves.

Q: Do I have to stick to just one discipline (ex: running, cycling)?
A: No, you can cover the mileage however you like. Bike 20 miles one day, run the next. Just cover the distance.

Q: Where should I complete my miles?
A: That's the beauty of a virtual challenge, you can cover miles wherever and whenever you like! Your neighborhood, local parks, treadmill, trainer all are good options. We do however insist you stay safe by observing all local, state and federal social distancing orders as well as respecting any closures or social distancing rules of local, county or state parks. Also if you're not feeling well or experiencing any symptoms of COVID19, it's best you stay home, rest and seek medical attention if necessary.

Q: Do I keep track of my miles?
A: You will log your miles on the Submit Mileage tab on the challenge website. We'll keep track and show you your progress on your route as you make your way to your goal. You can even earn badges as you make your way through your challenge.

Q: Can I log miles multiple times a day?
A: Sure! You can log miles once or as many times a day as you like. You can submit multiple mileage entries a day on our submission page.

Q: Do I have to be fast?
A: No, not at all. My Mom is walking her way across Illinois this summer!

Q: What do I get for participating?
A: Participants get a custom limited edition Illinois Endurance Challenge t-shirt, a custom finisher’s medal denoting the challenge completed, a virtual race bib, a custom IEC Koozie, access to our fancy tracking software and offers from small businesses around Illinois.

Q: Do I need a GPS watch or smartphone app to track my mileage?
A: You can use whatever technology that works best of you to track your mileage, but we will not require any proof of activity. We call it the Honor System. We just made that up.

Q: Do treadmill miles count? How about elliptical miles?
A: Yes for treadmills miles. Yes for elliptical miles. But really? Get your butt out the door and enjoy that amazing Illinois humidity!

Q: I'm running in another race during the same period as the challenge. Can I count those miles toward my total?
A: Yes.

Q: If I register after the challenge start date on June 8, do I still get 90 days to complete my goal?
A: No, so choose a challenge goal that is realistic to complete in the time you have remaining.

Q: Which miles count?
A: Any miles accumulated walking, running, hiking and cycling with the specific purpose of exercise and logging miles count towards your challenge total. Steps counted by your fitbit at work don’t count. Steps counted because of your jimmy leg don’t count. Remember the Honor System.

Q: How will I report my miles?
A: Refer to the "Submit Miles" section for full details.

Q: Is there a minimum age to complete the Illinois Endurance Challenge?
A: No minimum age, but if you sign your six year old up for the 500 mile challenge we may have to turn you into child welfare services. We will have youth sizes available and do have some challenge distances that are totally appropriate for kids 6-12 years old.

Q: When do I receive my finisher medal?
A: We will start mailing them out, along with shirts toward the end of the challenge, late July. Yes, you still have till the end of August to reach your goal stop freaking out.

Q: How much of my registration is donated to charity?
A: $5 of every registration is automatically set aside for our charities. You get to choose where your money goes during the registration process.

Q: Can I join a team?
A: Yes, you can create a team when you register or join an existing team. Creating or joining a team is a great way to stay accountable while working toward your challenge goal!

Q: Can we have a relay team?
A: No relays but you can compete as part of a team. The largest team wins a case of beer (on us!) from their favorite local brewery.

Q: Are the shirts unisex or gender specific?
A: Gender specific. Ladies we wouldn’t do that to you.

Q: What do the shirts and medals look like?
A: See the Swag and Prizes Tab

Q: Where is my bib and how can I print it out?
A: See the race bib section here.

Q. Can I edit my t-shirt size?
A. Yes, you can, until July 1st, 2020! To edit your size, log into your RunSignup account and click Profile, and then My Registered Races. Find the Illinois Endurance Challenge and click Manage Registration. Select the T-Shirt Size Edit tab on the left-hand side of the screen, and update your size from the drop-down menu.

Q. What timezone are we using?
A.We will be utilizing the UTC-6 (Iillinois - Central) timezone for consistent leaderboard reporting and updates. Let's keep this simple; if it's June 15th where you are, you just report it as that on the leaderboard.

Q. Can I change my distance if I'm not going to make it?
A. Yes, you can, until August 1, 2020! Please email events@brrm.com if you need to swap events. This will change you on the leaderboard the following day.
