Description

The I Love LK 5K is a fund raising event meant to memorialize precious Lila Kate McAlister. LK lived a remarkable 41/2 years, touching the hearts and lives of all people who met her. Born with Down Syndrome, pulmonary hypertension, and a heart defect, simple illnesses such as the common cold were a constant source of concern for her family. On January 9, 2015, Lila Kate left our lives to be in heaven. Raising funds for organizations such as Garland County Special Olympics and the Arkansas Down Syndrome Association in her memory is a top priority for her family, friends, and our community. Your participation in this event gives great comfort to Lila Kate's family, and it helps support many nonprofit organizations in our community. With your generosity, we have given over $300,000.00 to local non profits assisting special needs children and their families!

In 2023, with your help, we supported Sunshine Therapeutic Riding, While We Are Waiting, Special Olympics, I Can! of Arkansas, Arkansas Down Syndrome Association, Our Promise, CASA, OCC, The Call, Miracle League, Beacon of Hope, Cooper Anthony CAC, and Arkansas Hunters for the Hungry. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Lila's Mile

Don't worry! Your special needs child's FAVORITE race of the year is back! We will celebrate the unique differences of our special needs participants by holding the very special event "Lila's Mile." This is a very short walk for these participants and their families and will be the kickoff to the 5k again this year. Each participant (and their families and friends, if they wish) will courageously walk to the finish line where each participant will receive a special award. This is truly a heart warming experience and the reason we do this every year! Participants will gather at the end of the Greenway by Orange Street and walk to the finish line being cheered by all the participants and families BEFORE the 5k kicks off!

2024 Race Location and I Love LK 5k Race Route

For the second year, the I Love LK5k will take place on the paved Hot Springs Greenway Trail. We will start at the Transportation Depot and run to Hollywood Park, turning around before the road. At Hollywood Park there will be a water station and a party!! Head on back to the Transportation Depot and cheer on your friends as they finish!

Early Packet Pickup NEW LOCATION

We are changing the early packet pickup to the Transportation Depot this year! This is the same location as the race start, 100 Broadway Terrace in Hot Springs.) You may pick up your race packet and/or t-shirt orders starting at 4PM and ending at 6PM on Friday, March 15th.

Late Registration

Registration is available all the way until race day! You can register March 15th, at the early packet pickup from 4-6 at the Transportation Depot at 100 Broadway Terrace. Or, come on out to the race at The Hot Springs Transportation Depot (also 100 Broadway Terrace) the morning of the race (March 16th) and we will get you signed up then! The race starts at 8AM, so get there early to get registered. We will register participants until 7:45 AM.

Biggest Team Challenge is back this year!

Last year this was a HUGE success, and you helped us bless our non-profits in a BIG way! Again this year the TOP THREE biggest teams will get a slice of our funds to donate to their LK Board approved local non-profit of choice. All you need to get started is a team leader, 10 participants to register, and the ability to grow. As you register for the race you will be asked if you want to start or join a team.

What are you waiting for?

Top Female and Male Winners Award

Our tradition continues in 2024: Both the Top Female and Male Winners will get to designate a cut of our funds raised to the non-profit of their choice (approved by the I Love LK Memorial Fund Board of Directors)! There is some serious competition for this one, so get to training!

5k Age Group Awards

The overall male and female winners will receive a medal and the opportunity to designate some of our funds raised to the non profit of their choice. (Subject to board approval.)

Top 3 male and female runners in 5 year age group increments after ages 1-9 will receive medals. Age group 1-9 will receive medals for top 3 male and female.

We will have a masters, grand masters, and seniors division as well. These will be the top 3 in the division, removing them from the age group awards.
