Description

Thunderbolt Youth Triathlon is a USAT Sanctioned Swim, Bike, Run event for kids ages 5-17 years old.  It will consist of (5-10 year olds) 50 yd swim, 3 mile bike, .5 mile run and (11-17 year olds) 200 yd swim, 6 mile bike, 1 mile run.  Awards will be presented to age group winners and overall winners in each race as well as top relay teams.

FOR THE PARENTS: We'll have a wave (or waves) for parents of participants that want to race and yes, we'll be giving out awards for fastest combined time of Mom+child and Dad+child. If you have multiple kids in the race, we'll add the fastest child/kid participant time to your time. These parent waves will be racing the same course as the 11-17 year olds (see distances above). You must have a child in the race to compete in this parent wave.

ADDITIONALLY:  We have added on split timing this event so you'll not only get an overall time which will be used to place individuals for awards, but you'll also get your times for each leg of the race including swim, T1, Bike, T2, Run.  For those unfamiliar with triathlon, T1 and T2 are your transitions between the swim/bike and the bike/run.

The goal of the Thunderbolt is to provide an opportunity for kids to engage in the sport of triathlon, have fun and be a part of something amazing.  Participants will receive an overall time at the finish and split times for swim, t1, bike, t2, run.  They will also receive a t-shirt, a one of a kind challenge coin, a full race bag of goodies and glory for them and their family.  Participate as an individual (do the whole thing yourself) OR as part of a Relay Team (swimmer, cyclist or runner).  Among other things this race is very well supported by volunteers, sponsors and the community.  We have vendors, food at the finish, drinks and a slip and slide finish.

Bolt Multisport (a 501(c)3 organization) races strive to be inclusive events with the ability to make accommodations for children with physical or developmental disabilities. If your child would like to participate, and they have a diagnosed disability which could fairly and reasonably be addressed with an accommodation, please encourage them to participate. Our goal is to help each one of them make it to the finish line by allowing a measure of help.  There will be an opportunity to explain and request accommodations in the registration process.

**Very Important: Kids will be placed in the age group according to their age on December 31 of the current year.  For example, if your child turns 11 in November, they would race against 11-12 year olds on race day (even if they are 10 right now).  This also means that 17 year olds turning 18 in the year of the race are not eligible to race.  On the other end of the spectrum, a 4 year old turning 5 by  December 31 of the race year is eligible to race (against other 5-6 year olds).  This is a USAT rule, is maintained through all USAT races and ensures consistency and fairness from one race to the next.

***Bolt Multisport has always had a benevolent purpose and in 2018, we officially received our 501(c)(3) designation. This means that donors can deduct contributions they make to us under IRC Section 170. We are also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Section 2055, 2106 or 2522.
