Description
The Bakersfield Sikh Women’s Association (BSWA) is excited to announce our 8th Annual 5K Walk on April 5, 2025, at Riverwalk Park. This year’s theme is “Walk for Resilience”.
Resilience is a core principle in Sikhism, deeply rooted in our faith’s emphasis on courage, perseverance, and trust even in the face of adversity. The concept of Chardi Kala (eternal optimism) encourages us to remain positive and determined, even in the face of hardship. As we cultivate our inner strength, we can overcome challenges while upholding justice, equality, and righteousness.
Since 2016, we have made a commitment to empowering Bakersfield youth through our annual scholarship program and this year we continue that tradition. Education plays a pivotal role in fostering resilience by equipping individuals with the knowledge, skills, and emotional fortitude to navigate life’s challenges. Through the efforts and generosity of our community, we have raised over $465,000 since 2016, which has helped over 250 high school students with their college tuition. Our goal this year is to raise $125,000; all proceeds go to deserving students who need a helping hand to pursue their dreams of earning a college degree.
