STAR Walk, 5k Run & Roll---------------- TO BENEFIT OUR NEIGHBORS WITH DISABILITIES

The STAR Inc Walk, 5K Run and Roll fundraising event  takes place on the scenic grounds and coastline of Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT. Conveniently located off I-95 exit 18, this park has some of the most panoramic views of Long Island Sound in Connecticut.

These fundraising activities will benefit STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way,  a non profit organization based in Norwalk CT.  For over six decades STAR, Inc. has been a leading provider of support and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Fairfield County, Connecticut. 

Our events include a 5k (3.1mi) run which is computer timed, a one mile walk and a kids scamper.

Participants in the 5k event are eligible for overall and age group awards. While many people run in the 5k we also encourage walkers who would like to complete the longer distance. EVERYONE is welcome! Please use this site to register for the 5k distance event!

The one mile walk event is not timed and there are no awards. This shorter route is suitable for people of all abilities, including wheelchairs, walkers and strollers. To register family members for the One Mile All Abilities Walk, family activities, refreshments and t-shirts please go to www.starct.org

Kids under 5 years are free for the walk and Kids Scamper. 

We also offer a "Virtual Run/Walk" which can be done at anytime and anywhere you choose. With your $50 donation for this event you are helping to support STAR, Inc. even though you can't be with us. You will receive your shirt and bib in the mail.

ALL EVENT REGISTRATIONS are totally inclusive! Everyone will receive a specially designed t-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch and fluids. There will be a kids' fun bus, face-painting, balloon sculpting, crafts, music, dancing, a taco truck, ice cream truck and so much more. This entire event takes place on Sherwood Island's seaside park grounds and pavilion area.  Come, bring the family, bring friends stay for the morning!

Sign up by April 24 to guarantee your size for our commemorative t-shirt. Entries after that date may receive shirts sized as available. We could run out of these great shirts so please register in time!

5K course description - You won't have any traffic to worry about as you run or walk the hard-packed beachfront, tarred paths, and cinder trails of the State Park. It is a very scenic and relatively flat course filled with the sights and sounds of the water and natural surroundings. Awards or prizes - only for the 5K distance runners & walkers: the Overall Men’s and Women’s Champions as well as for age groups 9 & under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and above.

The one mile course is mostly tarred path and also flat. It is easy to walk on, stroll or roll - and you're never more than a stones throw away from some exciting water views. The course map: https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=7067027 There are no awards for this untimed one mile distance.

The Kids Scamper will be approximately 150 yards long and may be modified on that day depending on the ages and amount of youngsters (5th grade and under please). Parents may accompany their children as needed. There are no awards for the Kids' Scamper.

ALL events are held rain or shine- there is no postponement date. Sorry but park rules do not allow pets of any kind.

Our family friendly registration fees for the 5k and One Mile Walk-

March 15- April 15: $25 age 19 & over - Only $15 age 18 & under 

April 16  to  May 3:  $30 age 19 & over - 18 & under remains $15

May 5 at the event:  $35 age 19 & over - 18 & under remains $15. 

Kids 5 and under are always free.

10:00am - 5k and one mile start, 5k awards to follow

11:00am - Free kids scamper

Sherwood Island Park features free parking for over 700 vehicles. Park rules do not allow any pets or furry friends other than the natural wildlife already there. That includes all the geese...be careful where you step!
