2025 RACE DEDICATION - TRACEY HECHT
The EBC Foundation is honored to dedicate the 12th Annual Every Boob Counts 5K to Tracey Hecht. Tracey is a daughter. a mother, a wife, a friend and a breast cancer survivor. Tracey has 2 kids (an athletic and sweet 7-year-old boy, and a silly and compassionate 6-year-old girl), a rescue dog, a cat that she's allergic to, and a husband of over 10 years that is the calm to her chaos and still makes her laugh every day.
Nearly five years ago, Tracey completed treatment for stage 3b triple negative breast cancer. The diagnosis came after discovering at age 25 that she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation. In May 2020, during the COVID pandemic, Tracey received the diagnosis while her children were just 9 months and 2 years old. Tracey's treatment consisted of 16 sessions of intravenous chemotherapy, 25 sessions of radiation therapy, a double mastectomy with delayed reconstruction, 6 months of oral chemotherapy, a complete hysterectomy, and one year of an oral targeted cancer drug. Tracey is forever grateful that her mom was able to temporarily relocate from Maryland to provide support for both her husband and Tracey, as well as their kids.
In addition to the support provided by family and friends, Sharsheret and its services were an invaluable resource during treatment and afterwards. That’s why Tracey now serves on the Sharsheret Southeast Advisory Committee, helping others as they face breast cancer. Tracey loves the opportunity she has to work with amazing people, speak at Sharsheret events, and spread awareness in her local community.
Professionally, Tracey works at the David Posnack JCC in Davie, FL, as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. After treatment and surgeries, she discovered how tough it can be to get back into fitness, which led her to obtain her Cancer Exercise Specialist Advanced Qualification to help other cancer survivors find their way back to movement and strength.
Running and movement kept Tracey sane and strong through her cancer journey. Tracey gives back through fitness and running, and especially through her work with Sharsheret and the cancer community. Tracey ran the Chicago Marathon (2022) and the Miami Half Marathon (2025) as part of Team Sharsheret while also being one of the team coaches in 2025. Tracey intends to kick off her training at the 12th Annual Every Boob Counts 5K in October for the Miami Half in January 2026 as a member of Team Sharsheret.
Join us at the 12th Annual Every Boob Counts 5K on October 12, 2025. Meet Tracey and her family and learn more about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
Thank you Tracey for sharing your story and accepting this race dedication!
MEET YOUR RACE DIRECTORS STACEY GARBOWIT AND KAREN MARCHIONE
Meet your Race Directors, Stacey Garbowit and Karen Marchione.
In 2011, Stacey founded The EBC Foundation in honor of her mother, Sandy, who bravely battled breast cancer. Inspired by her mother’s strength and determined to prevent other families from experiencing the same loss, Stacey made it her mission to advocate for the powerful message of early detection. Combining her passion for running with her commitment to awareness, Stacey created the Every Boob Counts 5k to help raise funds for local organizations. Since then, more than $250k has been donated to local community partners including Susan G. Komen, Experience Camps, Helping Mothers Helping Babies, and Sharsheret where Stacey also serves on the National Board of Directors.
Karen has been an essential and committed partner since the inception of the Every Boob Counts 5k in 2012, donating time to ensure a seamless race-day experience for participants. After losing her own mother to breast cancer in 2020, Karen deepened her commitment to the cause. Drawing on her 20+ years of experience as a consumer goods executive, Karen now leads sponsorship development and social media efforts expanding the reach and impact of the foundation and its efforts.
Together, Stacey and Karen bring passion, dedication, and leadership to ensure the Every Boob Counts 5K continues to make a meaningful difference in the community.
