- 10K Run
Please join us for the Run for Wendy 10K and 5K! This race is being organized in honor of Wendy Martinez, an avid runner and proud Floridian who grew up in West Palm Beach. Wendy was proud of her Florida roots and, though she relocated to Washington, DC to pursue a career in public service and later the tech industry, she loved coming home at every opportunity to enjoy her friends, family, and long runs along the beach.
In September 2018, Wendy was the victim of a random and senseless attack while on a run near her Washington, DC home. She was only 35. In the wake of this tragedy, Wendy’s friends and family created the Wendy Martinez Legacy Project (TWMLP), an effort that will keep Wendy’s light and example alive by investing in the causes that were dearest to her in life. In line with her thriving career and commitment to empowering girls and women, TWMLP will finance strategic activities along three lines of action: women in technology, women’s entrepreneurship, and community strengthening through running. Finally, given how much Wendy treasured her Nicaraguense roots, TWMLP will prioritize efforts that uplift Latinos and other minority communities.
By joining us at the race on April 29th, you will help us celebrate Wendy’s life, her many accomplishments, and the many ways in which her legacy will generate positive, lasting change. Through our combined efforts we know that, in the end, #LoveWins. When we #RunforWendy, we’re not alone. We are a community, we are powerful, and we will not stop running. We hope to see you there!
