Reach the Beach - Chicago (Waitlist)

PLEASE NOTE:  This is the registration site to sign up for the Reach the Beach – Chicago  WAITLIST.  Registering here DOES NOT enter you in the event. 

This waitlist opens on September 13, 2021. 

Entry invitations will be awarded from this waitlist to 48 swimmers (12 teams of 4) primarily on a first-come-first-served basis.  After the swim is sold out, this waitlist will stay open until the day before the swim and serve as a pool of replacement teams and individual swimmers for the current year’s event.  Additionally, all Team Captains on the waitlist, regardless of when they joined, will receive priority registration status in our Loyalty Program over new registrants when the waitlist for the next swim opens on September 1st the following year.    

Reach the Beach - Chicago is a dramatic 22-mile out & back swim to beyond the Lake Michigan horizon from the beach alongside America’s tallest and most spectacular skyline!  

Swimmers who have raised funds for disabled U.S. combat Veterans participate in teams of four in a relay race or distance competition offering unique awards for both teams and individuals.  Each team is provided their own dedicated support boat and crew.

HOW WAITLISTED SWIMMERS ARE AWARDED ENTRY INVITATIONS

In the awarding of entry invitations, swimmers who sign up for the waitlist together as a team (by their Team Captain) will have priority over those signing up as “Individual Swimmers.”  

Entry invitations will be awarded to the First 12 Teams joining the waitlist which fill the competitive divisions as needed to satisfy the greatest demand, while maintaining a competitive balance.

On October 1st, if there are team vacancies in the relay race (not sold out), we will begin forming the teams needed to fill divisions by matching and awarding entry invitations to Individual Swimmers on the waitlist who warrant they can swim a mile in 40 minutes or less in a pool.  Pre-formed teams signing up for the waitlist after October 1st will still be given priority for entry invitations not already awarded to individual swimmers.      

BEST STRATEGY FOR GETTING IN THE SWIM 

• Sign Up for This Waitlist Right Away!  Team Captains, sign up your team if your team is already formed - as the best chance for getting an entry invitation is to sign up for the waitlist early as part of a team.  Swimmers not yet on a team should also get waitlisted right away as an “Individual Swimmer,” while working on forming or joining a team ASAP. 

• Sign Up for This Waitlist Twice - As both a team member and as an individual swimmer.  Being waitlisted twice will optimize your chances to receive an entry invitation.  While swimmers may only be waitlisted on a single team, team members may also register to be waitlisted as individual swimmers.  This may provide team members additional opportunities if their team doesn't get in and other teams need replacement swimmers.  When swimmers on the "Individual Swimmers" waitlist join a team, they should make sure their Team Captain registers them as a waitlisted team member ASAP.      

        Use Our Resources to Form or Join a Team:  

• Join the Find Teammates Forum to team up with athletically compatible and like-minded swimmers.  Being a Forum member helps Team Captains and individual swimmers connect to form teams initially and later if replacement swimmers are needed.  Even if you do not need help forming a team, Team Captains and team members are still encouraged to join the Find Teammates Forum to keep their options open if their team does not get activated from the waitlist.  Everyone should join the Forum!

• Email other individual swimmers waitlisted on RunSignUp to form a team.  You may also view this information in your RunSignUp profile under "Groups."
