USAT membership will be required at registration or you can opt for a 1Day USAT race license.  

Kickapoo Triathlon is 7 years old in 2024.   *New in 2024* High School Race.

500Μ SWIM  20K BIKE  5K RUN

This triathlon will begin at 8am with a 500 meter swim in beautiful Kickapoo Lake.   After a quick lakeside transition athletes will head out for a smooth, fast two loop 20k bike course that brings them back to the transition area.   Athletes will then run on a shaded, rolling out and back 5k course before returning to the finish line. The Duathlon will begin with a 1 mile out and back run to transition before heading out on the beautiful 20k bike course. The high school race will occur alongside the AG race and follow the same beautiful course.  This race is held completely within beautiful Shakamak State Park with little if any traffic making it perfect for beginners or those seeking a race PR.   Awards and post race refreshments following the race.   

HIGH SCHOOL SPRINT

New for 2024 we will host  a USAT sanctioned High School Race.   This race will be on the same beautiful course as the Age Group race but will be scored separately.   Eligibility:  Students are eligible to compete as part of the High School Race starting the summer after their 8th grade graduation and continuing until September 1st after their senior year.   This will be a NON DRAFTING race following all the USAT rules.   The race entry fee will remain the same throughout the registration period but is limited to 50 athletes.  Grab your friends and register today for the inaugural Kickapoo High School Sprint.

6am  Packet Pickup  (NO RACEDAY REGISTRATION)

6am  Transition opens 

6am Body marking

7:30am  Athlete meeting around transition area.

7:50am  Transition closes.  Swim start staging begins.

8:00am  Rolling time trial start (athletes time starts at timing mat).  Athletes will enter water 2x2 starting 5 seconds apart.  

8:00am Duathlon start.

POST RACE FOOD & DRINK  Served at finish/recovery area.

PARKING

Arrive early.  Athletes will be directed into the Kickapoo parking lot on a first come first served basis.  Once that lot is full you will be directed to Lenape parking area.   

TRANSITION MAP

Athletes only in transition area.  Please no glass inside transition area.   

SWIM MAP

A 500 meter clockwise swim in beautiful Kickapoo Lake with a time trial start.   Water temps around 80 degrees.  Official water temperature will be taken race morning.  

DUATHLON RUN START (1 mile)

Athletes will start at the same time as the triathlon swim.  The 1 mile run will take athletes out and back before returning to the transition area.  

KICKAPOO BIKE MAP

The bike course is a two loops around Shakamak Park with little if any traffic.   While mostly flat and fast there are a few small rollers tossed in for fun.  

KICKAPOO RUN MAP

This run course is out and back with a few rollers 2 aid stations and a lot of shade.   

RULES

THIS RACE IS A USAT SANCTIONED RACE AND ALL RULES WILL BE ENFORCED.  PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL RULES.

WETSUITS  It is unlikely that this race will be a wetsuit swim.    If the water temperature is over 78 degrees on race morning athletes that choose to wear a wetsuit will start at the back of the field and will not be eligible for awards.   

Life jackets, snorkels, pull buoys or any device aiding or providing floatation will NOT be allowed.

HELMETS ALL athletes must wear a bike helmet approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) while on your bike.   This includes before, during and after the event.  PENALTY: Disqualification 

CHIN STRAPS Helmet chin straps must be buckled at ALL times while on your bike.  DO NOT UNBUCKLE CHIN STRAP WHILE ON BIKE.  PENALTY: Disqualification

DRAFTING  This is a NON DRAFTING bike course.   Please maintain a 3 bike length distance between your front wheel and the bike in front of you.  If you move into this "draft zone" you will have 15 seconds to complete your pass.

BLOCKING  Ride to the right side of the road.   Pass on the left.  Communicate with other athletes when overtaking them.   

OVERTAKEN  Once you have been passed you must immediately exit back out of the "draft zone" before attempting to pass again.

ABANDONMENT  All personal equipment and belongings taken onto the course must stay on the athlete the entire time.  No trash, clothing, etc shall be thrown on the course.  Do not litter. Lets keep this park beautiful.    

TRANSITION AREA  All equipment must be properly placed in the designated bike corral.  The bicycle wheel MUST be down on the assigned side of the rack and bikes must be returned upright in the assigned position after riding.   No person shall interfere or impede the progress of another athlete in the transition area (Be respectful of others)  All bar ends MUST be plugged.   No glass containers allowed in the transition area.  

TIMING CHIP All athletes must wear a timing chip to receive a finish time and place.  NO CHIP NO TIME.   

RACE NUMBERS Race numbers MUST be worn (facing forward)  at all times on the run.  DO NOT TRANSFER your number to another athlete or use a number from another athlete.  PENALTY:  Transferring a race number without the approval from race director is an automatic disqualification and a one year USAT membership suspension. 

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE Other than medical officials or race officials NO outside assistance is allowed.  

COURSE  For safety reasons and to ensure a fair race all athletes must follow the prescribed race course.  Cyclist should NEVER cross over the center line for safety reasons and must follow all traffic laws.  Cutting the course is an obvious violation and just plain not cool.

HEADPHONES Personal audio devices cannot be worn or carried at anytime during the race.  This is for your safety and the athletes around you.  Thank you.  

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT Argumentative, harsh or abusive language towards race officials, USAT officials, volunteers, spectators or other athletes is forbidden.  If you have a complaint please bring it to the race directors to be reviewed.
