Description
Kappa Delta has the privilege of hosting its annual 5k and 1-mile fun run! This race is a time when Kappa Delta and the community is able to support the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home and Prevent Child Abuse America. Check-in for the 5K and Fun Run will begin at 7:30 am. The 1-mile Fun Run will start at 8:30 am, and the 5K race will start at 8:45 am. All proceeds go to the Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Service and Prevent Child Abuse America! We are so excited to participate and cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store!
Chick Childress Donation
Jimmy “Chick” Childress, one of the most successful high school football coaches in state history and a 2001 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame inductee, began his life journey as an orphan at the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston.
The legendary coach led Ruston High School, his alma mater, to a 131-27 (.829) record and four state championships in 1982, 1986, 1988 and 1990 to highlight his 12 seasons as the Bearcats head coach. Childress also helped coach Monroe Neville High to four state titles and won his first state crown as a player at Ruston in 1947. During his career, he also had tenures at Carroll High School, Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe), and Cedar Creek School.
Childress received his undergraduate degree at Northeast Louisiana State College and his Master's Degree and Plus 30 from Louisiana Tech University. After his final Ruston High team won the state championship, finishing as the No. 1 nationally ranked team, he was later immortalized on the RHS campus with a new field house bearing his name.
Childress passed away in 2015, leaving behind his wife Chris (a Kappa Delta), daughter Cindy and husband Phillip, son Dan and wife Maribel (a Kappa Delta) among other family and a host of friends and former players and coaches.
In honor of Coach Childress and the impact he had on the Ruston Community, we have opened up donations in his name to show appreciation. To donate, please follow under the race sign up and there will be an option under his name! Thank you all so much!
