Description
Before we go over a little preview of the course, this 5K is a race that includes trails. Just as our title says, we run trails. Okay, our disclaimer has been noted. The event starts and finishes at the Mattawan High School track. The first leg of the race is on a paved road leading around to the high school. Once near the front of the high school, the run enters a wooded area for about a half mile. NOTE this is a trail section. A trail that includes grass (sometimes dewy), dirt, sand, gravel sections, and possible wet grass/mud. Trails are a part of this course. After exiting the woods (trails), the run continues through the Mattawan grounds on paved surfaces, back to the road, and around to the finish line on the track. Food and beverages will be available after the race. Dogs are not allowed on the course. All walkers and participants with strollers will be required to wait until all runners have crossed the start line. Did we mention that this race includes trails? Just so we are clear and transparent, this 5K involves trails. ;) In inclement weather, the race may be delayed or canceled. No refunds will be given.

Thank You from The Foundation (MPEF)
Proceeds earned from the race will be donated to the Mattawan Public Education Foundation (MPEF) for use in their brain strength programs for students. In the fall of 2021-22, we awarded 43 Brain Strong Awards to teachers in all four buildings, putting $25,000 directly back into our teachers’ hands and fueling classroom learning, innovation, creativity, and enthusiasm. Teachers use these awards to support and enhance the learning experiences inside and outside their classrooms. Brain strong summarizes the mission of the Mattawan Public Education Foundation: “to strengthen the community through funding unique educational opportunities.”
