Description

Join us for the inaugural Chip Seaver Memorial 5K "Rooster Run"! This event features a 5K endurance race as well as a 1-mile fun walk/run, making it a perfect outing for the entire family. Whether you're a serious runner aiming for a personal best or just looking for a fun day out, this event is for you.

The majority of the race takes place along a section of the greenway near Irvin Park, with the start and finish lines located at the Greensboro Public Safety Training Grounds. After the race, you'll have the opportunity to interact with some local first responders. Sparky, the Fire Dog, may also make an appearance! Oh, bring a towel with you. You might have a need to dry off at the finish line.

Chip’s life was dedicated to service. Chip served his country as a U. S. Marine.  After his honorable discharge, Chip joined the Greensboro Fire Department where he served his local community as a firefighter. Chip was adventurous. He was well thought of by his fellow firefighters and they nicknamed him the “Rooster”. An event in his memory must honor his beloved nickname, therefore the Rooster Run was established.

The Chip Seaver Memorial Fund at Guildford Technical Community College (GTCC) was established by Chip’s sister Scottie, and other donors, to honor Chip’s respected career and life of service. Proceeds from the race go to the Chip Seaver Memorial Fund at GTCC to support the fire academy and training program. GTCC’s fire training programs help to ensure current and future firefighters receive the knowledge and skills they need to serve their communities and preserve the safety of all, at the highest level.
