Why The Ridge Road Run?

In 2018, seven students from three local high schools: Red Bank Regional High School (RBR), Red Bank Catholic (RBC) and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) came together to form the Ridge Road Run 5K for Suicide Prevention to raise funds for mental health programs and to increase awareness about mental health struggles and suicide. They had many things in common but two main things stood out:  The three high schools are located on or close to Ridge Road and all of them had been impacted by a tragic death by suicide.  Together they decided to put their school rivalries aside and create the Ridge Road Run 5K for Suicide Prevention.  Since the inaugural race, funds raised have been awarded to each of the three High Schools  and the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County to support awareness of mental health struggles and suicide.
The Ridge Road Run has continued even during the 2020-2021 global pandemic. The global pandemic has brought on an entirely new set of mental health challenges for our students and many individuals in our community and around the world.  Unfortunately, there has been a 50% increase in suicide and an increase in individuals struggling with mental health diagnosis. We want to ensure our communities have what they need to meet the emerging needs.  Proceeds will continue to be used for suicide prevention education, mental health/wellness initiatives and to raise awareness of suicide and mental health struggles benefitting students at  Red Bank Catholic (RBC), Red Bank Regional (RBR), and Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) High Schools.
We are proud to report that The Ridge Road Run Ambassador program was created this school year at each High School. Collectively we have over 40 student Ambassadors  working  to “end the stigma” in their schools, applying for grant money from the race, promoting the race and disseminating information to their schools and greater community.

PLEASE CONSIDER BECOMING A SPONSOR OR MAKING A DONATION

Proceeds will continue to be used for suicide prevention education, mental health/wellness initiatives and to raise awareness of suicide and mental health struggles benefitting students at
Red Bank Catholic (RBC), Red Bank Regional (RBR), and Rumson-Fair Haven (RFH) High Schools
and the greater community

Grants are available to mental health community agencies
