What is a virtual race?
A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, or on a track. You can even get creative and think of a unique place to run your race to share with us! You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. For instructions to submit Virtual Run results, CLICK HERE.
What is a 1 mile kids fun run?
We will have a 1 mile course set up for anyone to participate in a noncompetitive race that will start 45 minutes after the 5K. The race is ideal for kids, but anyone can run or walk it. As it is a fun run, we encourage that kids or even adults get one more usage of their Halloween costume and dress up! Fun run participants will get a t-shirt however we will not have official times for participants and no chip time will be given.
Can I post about the race or do a facebook live?
Yes, we encourage all participants to post with your ALS shirt to provide awareness about ALS and Run Against ALS.
Do I have to start my virtual race at 9:00 AM on May 20th?
No, you don't have to start right at 9:00 AM, in fact you can do your race anytime before May 21st at 11:59 PM. Although, It is fun to know that you are part of a race at the same time anywhere in the world!
Can I walk or push a stroller?
Yes, just start at the back of the race in the last wave of runners/walkers and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Volunteers
We need Volunteers! If you aren't running but would like to help out on race day between the hours of 8am-11am, please email us at RunAgainstALS@gmail.com (must be 15 years old or older or accompanied by an adult)
What is ALS?
ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects cells in the brain and spinal cord leading to weakness of muscles and eventual death.
Why is it important to support this race?
There is no cure for ALS. Critical research is needed to find treatments that extend individuals' lives with this disease. The life expectancy for individuals diagnosed with ALS is on average 2 to 5 years. Also, there is significant cost associated with this disease. One study found that the total disease duration cost of having ALS was $1.4 million. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25245119/
Proceeds from this race will help support individuals with ALS and research for the treatment of ALS:
