YWCA Butler Turtle Trot 0.5K presented by Pennsylvania American Water

Its the race for the rest of us! Join us for an afternoon of glory, celebration, and participation medals while raising money for a great cause — YWCA Butler’s programs to help women living in poverty.

YWCA’s Turtle Trot 0.5K - That's not a typo. We mean it... POINT FIVE K!

The Turtle Trot 0.5K was created for folks who are NOT ready to go the extra mile. In fact, they aren't even willing to go a mile at all, and barely even a quarter mile. But our 0.5k'ers are willing to be silly and have a little bit of fun while raising money to help YWCA Butler offer programs that serve women living in poverty. 

The Turtle Trot 0.5K incorporates all the typical race elements into a treacherous 1,640 ft, 0.3 mile race “course.” We can assure you, no training or effort is required. This is a "race" for all the un-runners, couch potatoes and armchair athletes! And since everyone is welcome, real runners are invited to join the rest of us!

We have it on good authority that a 0.5K takes about 7 minutes to complete--and that's if you walk. So to streeeeeetch it out, we’ve included lots of fun stations to complete along your way. You’ll get to play some backyard games, take selfies and more. Everyone will trot along towards to the finish line and once you cross, you’ll get a medal to show off Monday at the office! Then, head to the Oddfellows Shelter to enjoy your free beer. To add some extra fun, we’ll be giving prizes for best individual costume and best group costume. So get creative!

Some Race Tips:

1. Harness your creativity and come in costume, so you're eligible for a prize AND bragging rights for best individual or group costume.
2. Arrive at the starting line early so you can stretch (0.3 miles is nothing to take too lightly)
3. At the halfway point (that's a whopping .155555 miles in), carb load with a slice of cake for energy. You’ll need it for the grueling second half.
4. Celebrate crossing the finish line and receive your finishers medal and beer in the Oddfellows Shelter. We’ll have root beer for the kiddos.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE:

• 2:00 pm - Packet Pick Up Begins
• 2:30 pm - Participants Start Trotting! (Trotters released in 15-minute increments)
• 4:45 pm - Costume Contest Winners Announced

Safety First!

A possibly staffed, or not staffed at all, First-Aid Station will be in place, you know, JUST IN CASE. There will be Band-Aids and lollipops in case there is an emergency.

Let's talk about the good stuff! Your entry fee will get you a bag of swag filled with one of those pretentious oval race stickers that says 0.5K, a fabulous T-shirt to prove you were there, and a finisher medal to show off Monday at the office so that everyone can be jealous of your accomplishments! But wait... there's MORE! All entries will also be given a FREE BEER at the finish line.

Entry Options

Turtle Trot Regular Entry - Like a Real NO-LYMPIC Athlete (ages 6 and up)

Ages 6-12: $15       Ages 13+ $20

All Finishers will receive a pretentious oval Euro-style 0.5K Race Sticker that you can attach to the rear window of your car to show everyone that a true athlete is behind the wheel. Plus a t-shirt, of course (guaranteed through Sept 1). And don't forget a finisher Medal because everyone gets recognized for their achievements at this event, because we're all about positivity and self-worth! Then you'll celebrate your achievements (and your swag) with a finish line beer for participants 21+ and a root beer for everyone else! Just sign up for the time you want to start.

Turtle Trot Kids Entry - The Only Time They’re Free (ages 0-5)

Ages 0-5: FREE

Enjoy the moment your favorite little angel costs you zero, zip, nada! This entry includes a medal and sticker. If you want a t-shirt, you’ll have the option to purchase during checkout through September 1st. Kids ages 0-5 do NOT need to sign up for a specific time. They can trot along the course whenever.

Turtle Trot Virtual Entry - The Swag Without the Sweat

All Ages: $20

Can’t make the Turtle Trot? Don’t worry about it! You can participate from the comfort of your couch. Virtual Participants will get a t-shirt (through Sept 1), the pretentious oval sticker, and a Finisher Medal just like everyone else so you can brag that you are a finisher of the 0.5K and no one will know any different. Brilliant!

All of the fun stuff aside, we are serious about the end result - raising money for YWCA to support their programs for women living in poverty. This includes Project Period, which collects and distributes menstrual supplies to women in need. Did you know you can't buy tampons or pads with SNAP (food stamps) or WIC funds? A recent research study showed that 2 in 5 women living in poverty had to choose between food and menstrual supplies in the past year. We want to make that a thing of the past. The Turtle Trot also supports Getting Ahead, an innovative 16-week program for women living in poverty to explore their circumstances, envision their future story and develop the resources they to help them stabilize their lives. Getting Ahead graduates have exited government benefit programs, gained more stable employment and purchased reliable used vehicles. Thank you to our sponsors who make this important work possible!
