Go Outside Festival

Race Against the Clock is a part of the Roanoke Go Outside Festival (GoFest)!

The Roanoke Go Outside Festival, sponsored by Anthem, is an annual event to encourage healthy, active outside recreation. By combining the things outdoor enthusiasts love – camping, music, gear, races, and demos all in a beautiful outdoor setting – GO Fest is a celebration of everything outdoors. The GO Outside Festival is a collaboration between Roanoke Outside Foundation and Roanoke Parks and Recreation.

This isn’t your ordinary sit-in-your-seat kind of festival – you’re encouraged to get involved.

Wander through downtown Roanoke for three days to try you hand at endless outdoor activities. Here, you can test drive a bike, demo a stand-up paddleboard, learn to fly cast, join a race, and sample craft beer all in one afternoon. Explore the world of outdoor sports when you watch films from the Banff Mountain Film Festival or take in a pro-athlete show. Discover a community of enthusiasts for virtually any outdoor passion and find yourself at home in the Roanoke region’s outdoors.

Parking

Parking is available at River's Edge North, Wiley Drive, and on the neighborhood streets surrounding the race course. The course is also less than one mile from the festival grounds, so parking in the downtown garages is also an option. From River's Edge, simply follow the Roanoke River Greenway to Piedmont Ave (just before going under the Walnut Ave bridge), and you'll find our staging area right there.

Start times will be listed online starting Wednesday, October 12, with updates occurring regularly as participants register the last 3 days. Late registrants (10/12 and later) will not be seeded. START TIMES CAN BE FOUND HERE.

How long is the course?
The climb is just under 2 miles, with approximately 900 feet of elevation gain.

The entire route is asphalt paved road and paved walkways, so your road bike and/or road running shoes are well suited for this course!

Once I get up the mountain and finish, how will I get back down?
We figure if you're fit enough to bike or run UP the mountain, you can coast or walk/run down. Just take your time, yield to those racing up that you're passing, and cheer them on- that's part of the fun!

How is the race timed?
Chip timing will be provided by Mountain Junkies, LLC and results will be posted here.

Where is the Awards Ceremony, and when?
Raffle prizes and awards will be given at the awards ceremony, which will be back at the Go Fest grounds at noon, at the Campfire Stage. The Campfire Stage is in upper Elmwood, near the intersection of Elm & Jefferson.
