“Keep the Parade Running” honors the memory of Michael Gillespie, a beloved public servant, retired Abington Township Police officer, and true Glenside icon who passed away in 2009. A 26-year police veteran and nearly two-decade Abington Township Commissioner, Michael dedicated his life to public service. He served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a graduate of Abington High School (Class of ’56).

Deeply devoted to Glenside and especially the July 4th Parade and Fireworks, he co-chaired the GGPA and was active in the Marine Corps League, Kiwanis, and Citizens and Police Together (CAPT). Remembered as kind, loyal, and tireless, he was a true local hero.
